Lexington, SC – A man from Lexington, South Carolina was taken into custody early Tuesday in connection to a family argument that rapidly escalated the previous night. Timothy Reed Brewington, 48, is facing charges of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a weapon by a person convicted of certain offenses.
Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon reported that, during their investigation and interviews, deputies discovered that Brewington had overheard an argument taking place between family members. He then decided to intervene, armed with a 9mm handgun. After a heated verbal exchange, Brewington allegedly aimed the handgun at the individual and fired. Fortunately, no injuries occurred as a result of the gunshot.
After firing the weapon, Brewington quickly returned to his residence and fled from the scene. Deputies later spotted him cruising along South Lake Drive, where he was apprehended without resistance, according to Sheriff Koon.
Brewington finds himself in custody at the Lexington County Detention Center pending future proceedings. This incident underlines the importance of limiting access to firearms, especially for individuals previously convicted of specific offenses.
