Lexington Residents Speak Up About Community Needs

LEXINGTON, S.C. — It’s that time of year again when Lexington County is reaching out to its folks for a little help in shaping the future. Earlier this month, the county rolled out a friendly survey aimed at gathering what residents think about essential public services and where the budget should focus. This initiative is part of their County-Wide Citizen Engagement Study, and it’s all about making sure that the voices of the people are heard loud and clear!

A Call for Change

On a sunny Wednesday afternoon, local residents were eager to share their thoughts with those asking the questions—and the common thread? They all want their beloved hometown to shine and improve. For resident Vivian Pate, a bit of change is crucial. “The roads are not the greatest, especially where we are on Hermitage Road,” she expressed with a sigh. ”There are potholes everywhere!” Pate also made a heartfelt appeal regarding animal services, wishing for a larger building that could accommodate more furry friends needing help.

Finding a Silver Lining

But it’s not all doom and gloom! Many neighbors, like Marcie Leaphart, expressed their satisfaction with the current county administration. “I think Lexington County is doing a pretty good job,” she remarked, showing that while some residents have their constructive criticisms, others appreciate the strides are being made.

What’s on Everyone’s Mind?

When the chat turned towards taxes and public spending, it was clear where the majority stood. Resident Travis Cooper pointed out, “I believe recently that the whole state of South Carolina has done a pretty good job investing in their infrastructure.” He urged for a continuation of these improvements, especially in light of the growing population in Lexington. “I think improvements to our roadways can really help accommodate those citizens,” he said, adding that a boost for the police and first responders wouldn’t be a bad idea either.

Even the youngest residents are chiming in! Little Landon Laskis, full of enthusiasm, called for “better roads and ambulances.” It’s clear that even kids are aware of their community’s needs and want to see progress in the right direction!
