Lexington County, South Carolina – In a two-day festivity rich with fun and furry friends, Steel Hands Brewing recently rolled out the red carpet for residents and their canines to celebrate and support K9 units in the area. Their annual Steel Paws celebration unfolded on May 10 and 11, with the primary objective of raising funds for K9 programs across South Carolina.
The event opened with the “Bowties & Blue Jeans” VIP event on the first day. Guests immersed themselves in a BBQ Smokeshow Feast, interactions with local vendors, live deputies from On Patrol, and participation in a unique auction, all while enjoying live music. On the following day, open to all, the agenda began with a puppy yoga session that invited residents with yoga mats to follow a yoga instructor while playful puppies ambled around and interacted with them.
Amongst the four-legged participants was the Cayce Police Department’s therapy dog that stole the limelight with its calm and well-trained disposition. The police department seized this opportunity to unveil the newest K9 member to their team as well.
Beyond the appeal of these canine activities, attendees were also offered a chance to examine law enforcement robots and take peeks inside the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department’s major tactical vehicle. Live music, in the meanwhile, kept the human guests thoroughly entertained.
Bearing its legacy from previous years, Steel Hands Brewing showcased its Steel Paws Wheat Ale. This beer with an ABV of 4.7% lends its proceeds to bolstering local law enforcement. Beneficiaries for this year’s proceeds included the Cayce Police Department, Richland County Sheriff’s Department, and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, particularly their canine programs.
Charitable contributions from the Steel Paws initiative over the past two years have amassed over $160,000, all in service of K9 programs across the state. These funds are pivotal to securing K9 training, procuring tactical vests, medical care, doing food supplies, and ensuring handler training among other requirements.
