Over the weekend, Irmo Police apprehended two men following a thrilling chase that began with an attempted traffic stop for an expired license. The chase spanned across Lake Murray Dam and ended when the vehicle crashed into another car. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The driver faced multiple charges, including reckless driving and possession of marijuana, while his passenger was arrested for resisting arrest.
In the bustling town of Irmo, South Carolina, police were busy over the weekend, following a thrilling car chase that ended in a crash. The drama unfolded on Saturday, December 28, when officers from the Irmo Police Department initiated an attempted traffic stop around 3 p.m. on Lake Murray Boulevard.
The chase started after officers noticed a vehicle with an expired license. When flagged down, the driver didn’t pull over. Instead, he decided to take a detour into a nearby Kroger parking lot, where he drove in circles. Perhaps hoping to evade the police, the driver’s actions prompted officers to kick off a pursuit that would keep everyone on the edge of their seats!
As the chase sped along, it crossed the scenic Lake Murray Dam, making its way into the Town of Lexington. With sirens blaring and lights flashing, the police followed closely behind, ready to handle any surprises that came their way.
The high-speed escapade came to an abrupt halt when the vehicle, trying to make a right turn onto Old Cherokee Road, collided with another car. Thankfully, the collision did not result in any injuries. As the dust settled, police wasted no time in apprehending the two men inside the vehicle.
The driver, identified as Joshua D. Riley, age 45, found himself facing a laundry list of charges. These include:
This was not Riley’s first brush with the law, as the multiple offenses indicate he has had his share of run-ins with the system. Next to him was Daion A. Bowers, age 39, who was hit with a charge for interfering with or resisting arrest. To add a twist to the tale, Bowers was also wanted by both the South Carolina Department of Probation, Pardon and Parole Services and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, suggesting that he had a few unresolved issues of his own!
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating the incident. As authorities sift through the details, it is clear that this event shook up a quiet Saturday afternoon in Irmo. Residents may breathe a sigh of relief knowing that there were no injuries reported, but it certainly served as a reminder of the unpredictability of the streets.
As the dust settles on this exciting weekend chase, one can only hope that the streets of Irmo remain safe for all. With these two men now in custody, the community can continue enjoying the beautiful surroundings without a cloud of chaos looming overhead. Let’s keep an eye on the reports as this story unfolds, as there might be more details coming our way!
