– An early morning fire razed a home to the ground in Irmo on Monday, per information shared by local fire officials. The residence, located on the 200 block of Zephyr Street, was completely destroyed.

The Irmo Fire District (IFD) indicated that emergency response teams from the IFD, Lexington County Fire Department, West Columbia Fire Department, and the Columbia-Richland Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters arrived at the premises around 4:50 a.m, tackling ferocious flames that had engulfed the property, and addressing a gas leak caused by a melted gas meter that had been struck by debris.

By the time the firefighters managed to contain the majority of the fire within the first 15 minutes, the house was already beyond salvageable condition. IFD confirmed that there were no casualties as the homeowner was not present at the time of the fire. An investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.
