Irmo Shines Bright This Holiday Season!
Hey there, lovely folks of Irmo! As we dive into December, a month that’s all about giving and spreading cheer, our wonderful community has come together to make a huge difference. The weather’s not too shabby either, as we enjoyed a sunny day on December 4, 2024, with a high of 54°F and soothing winds from the south-southwest at about 10 to 15 mph. While a few clouds made their appearance in the afternoon, they couldn’t overshadow the bright spirit of our town!
Giving Tuesday Shines in the Midlands
Now, let’s talk about something that warmed our hearts even more than the sunshine! December 4 was not just another day; it was Giving Tuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back. Our very own Mungo Homes Foundation kicked things up a notch with their annual Week of Giving, aimed at supporting over 40 nonprofit organizations across ten markets. Here in the Midlands, they’re making waves – donating a whopping $100,000 to local charities and lending a hand through volunteer efforts with Families Helping Families.
A Joyous Celebration
This fantastic initiative culminated on Tuesday at the Mungo Home office in Irmo, where local leadership, employees, and representatives from various charitable organizations came together to celebrate. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement! Chris Sharpe, Executive Director of EmmanuWheel, expressed his gratitude, saying, “We’re very thankful for Mungo Homes and all of their support. It has been three years since we first started working together, and I see so many faces here today that have volunteered with us and helped us build ramps, and it has had such a huge impact.” Mungo Homes presented EmmanuWheel with a check for $10,000.
The sentiment of appreciation flowed freely throughout the event. Sutton Shaw, co-founder of the Big Red Barn Retreat, was all smiles as he received a generous $25,000 check from Mungo. “You guys have made a difference through your volunteering, coming out, sharing our message, and we couldn’t do it without you,” he said, highlighting the vital support received from the foundation.
Building a Brighter Future
Jeffrey Armstrong, the executive director of Family Promise of the Midlands, shared a heartfelt message as well. He was the recipient of a $30,000 check and stated, “When you see a family move from being at the bottom to becoming a homeowner, that shows the power of community. Thank you so much for supporting us, especially when no one else was coming through to help during the pandemic.”
But the generosity didn’t stop there! Mungo Homes made substantial donations to other worthy causes, such as $25,000 to Home Works and $10,000 to the District 5 Foundation for Educational Excellence. These contributions aim to uplift families, support veterans, and boost educational initiatives in our local community.
Wrapping Up the Day with Gratitude
As we close out this inspiring story, let’s take a moment to reflect on the remarkable spirit of giving that flows through Irmo. The actions of organizations like Mungo Homes Foundation remind us all that together, we can create lasting change in our community. So, as we cozy up for the evening—expect mostly clear skies transitioning to clouds tonight, with a gentle low of 41°F—let’s keep the spirit of giving alive in our hearts!
Until next time, keep being fabulous, Irmo!
