Central Carolina Community Foundation Announces $1.17 Million in Grants for Hurricane Recovery Efforts in South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. – A Generous Boost for Hurricane Recovery!

Exciting news has come from the Central Carolina Community Foundation as they’ve announced a whopping $1,173,500 in grants to support 14 nonprofits across South Carolina. This funding is a beacon of hope for communities still rebuilding after the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene. The goal? To provide essential relief and assist with rebuilding efforts in the areas most affected by the storm.

A Significant Total for Relief Efforts

This latest round of grants isn’t just a stand-alone effort. It builds on a previous commitment; back in October 2024, $450,000 was already awarded to Feeding the Carolinas. Combined, these efforts bring the total funding from the One SC Fund for Hurricane Helene relief to over $1.6 million. Wow! That’s a huge commitment to helping South Carolinians get back on their feet!

Support from Key Nonprofits

The nonprofits receiving this funding are stepping up in incredible ways. For instance, Habitat for Humanity South Carolina is gearing up for a dynamic new housing recovery model thanks to these funds. Nancy Lee, the organization’s executive director, expressed her excitement, stating, “Habitat is wired to serve, and the significant investment from the One SC Fund has been the catalyst for a new housing recovery model developed in partnership with the SC Office of Resilience.”

Lee also mentioned how this generous grant will allow them to tackle long-term recovery activities faster than usual, partnering with 25 communities to restore an impressive 73 homes damaged by Hurricane Helene.

Meanwhile, United Way of the Lakelands is also feeling the warmth of community support. Justo Chalaire, their Director of Community Impact, said, “We are humbled to be a small part of this impactful effort and proud to stand alongside our local leaders, partners, and volunteers to bring relief and hope to the Lakelands region.” It’s heartening to see such collaboration, as everyone pitches in to make a difference.
