Following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, South Carolina is taking significant steps towards recovery. With federal disaster assistance approved by President Biden, aid is now reaching affected communities. Thirteen counties, including Newberry and Lexington, will benefit from funding for housing grants, loans, and emergency work. Those in need of assistance can apply easily through DisasterAssistance.gov. Ongoing support from FEMA is vital as the state works to rebuild and strengthen its communities in the aftermath of the storm.
In the wake of Hurricane Helene wreaking havoc across South Carolina, the state is rolling up its sleeves and preparing to bounce back with some much-needed assistance! Thanks to President Biden’s approval of federal disaster assistance, which is now flowing into the state, communities are getting the support they need to recover from the storm’s impacts. This is truly a breath of fresh air for those affected!
The announcement came from FEMA, which confirmed that federal disaster assistance will target thirteen counties in South Carolina hard-hit by Helene. Among those receiving help are Newberry, Saluda, and Lexington in the Midlands, along with others including Aiken, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Cherokee, Greenville, Greenwood, Oconee, Pickens, and Spartanburg. It’s a big deal for our communities, and one that shows that help is on the way!
The funding will be used for a range of vital programs aimed at rebuilding and recovery. Whether it’s temporary housing grants, home repair grants, or low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, there’s something for everyone. Moreover, federal funds will also be available for state and local governments, tribes, and some nonprofits to tackle emergency work in the designated areas.
If you have experienced uninsured property damage, the Individual Assistance program may cover your losses. After you apply, you might need an inspection to verify your damages, so it’s wise to keep detailed records of your losses, including photos and lists.
Let’s keep supporting each other as South Carolina rises up and rebuilds the community stronger than ever after Hurricane Helene!
