Community Rallies Together to Raise Over $4.5 Million for Hurricane Helene Recovery Efforts in South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Community Unites to Support Hurricane Helene Recovery

In the heart of Columbia, South Carolina, a wave of compassion and support is sweeping through the community as residents rally together in response to the devastating impacts of Hurricane Helene. The storm has left many in the area grappling with significant losses, but the good news is that the community is stepping up in a big way.

Over $4.5 Million Raised for One SC Fund

As of now, more than $4.5 million has been raised for the **One SC Fund**, which is managed by the Central Carolina Community Foundation. This fund is designed to assist non-profit organizations that are working tirelessly to aid communities in South Carolina that are eligible for FEMA assistance. It’s heartening to see such a response; included in the fundraising efforts is a generous $2.5 million grant from The Duke Endowment. Isn’t that amazing?

A Voice for the People

Georgia Mjartan, the president and CEO of the Central Carolina Community Foundation, expressed her gratitude for the incredible support pouring in from both the corporate world and local philanthropists. “Many residents are facing unprecedented losses due to the hurricane,” Mjartan stated, highlighting the overwhelming need for assistance. It’s a reminder of how important it is to come together during tough times.

Launched for Local Support

The One SC Fund was officially launched on October 1 and serves as South Carolina’s statewide initiative for disaster response. It’s too easy to feel helpless when disaster strikes, but contributions from individuals, businesses, and foundations show that we can make a real difference when we unite. The fund has already received more than $100,000 in individual donations, underscoring the strong community spirit in Columbia and surrounding areas. This is the kind of news that warms your heart!

Generosity from Prominent Donors

A number of well-known organizations have stepped up to support the One SC Fund, including Blue Cross BlueShield of South Carolina, Wells Fargo, Genentech (a member of the Roche Group), Rooms to Go, and Delta Dental of South Carolina. Their contributions reflect a broader understanding that when one community hurts, we all feel the impact and must do our part to help.

Ways to Contribute

If you’re looking for a way to pitch in, there are plenty of options available. Contributions to the One SC Fund can be made easily online at www.OneSCFund.org, or you can send a check made out to the Central Carolina Community Foundation – One SC Fund at their office address: Central Carolina Community Foundation, 2142 Boyce Street, Suite 402, Columbia, SC 29201.

Final Thoughts

As the people of Columbia come together to support one another, it’s clear that the community’s resilience shines brightly even in the aftermath of devastation. The outpouring of support through the One SC Fund is a testament to the strength and caring nature of this incredible community. Each donation, no matter the size, helps rebuild lives and restore hope for those struggling with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
