The announcement came from FEMA, which confirmed that federal disaster assistance will target thirteen counties in South Carolina hard-hit by Helene. Among those receiving help are Newberry, Saluda, and Lexington in the Midlands, along with others including Aiken, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Cherokee, Greenville, Greenwood, Oconee, Pickens, and Spartanburg. What’s Included in Individual Assistance?

If you have experienced uninsured property damage, the Individual Assistance program may cover your losses. After you apply, you might need an inspection to verify your damages, so it’s wise to keep detailed records of your losses, including photos and lists.

Public Assistance and Mitigation Programs

Hazard Mitigation Grant program, which is aimed at projects designed to minimize risks from future disasters. This program is open to state agencies, local governments, and some nonprofits.

Keeping Track of the Recovery

$106 million in housing assistance has reached more than 150,000 households in South Carolina since the hurricane.
