For many regulars, the Hopkins Park pool has been a cherished spot for cooling off during the sweltering South Carolina heat. Unfortunately, since May 2023, this beloved swimming place has been closed due to safety issues stemming from various leaks. However, hope is on the horizon! Recent updates from the Richland County Recreation Commission suggest that the pool could be ready to dive into next spring!
During a recent meeting, the commission got the scoop on numerous community projects, with the pool renovations taking center stage. Taurus Lewis, the Executive Director of the recreation commission, shared some encouraging news: “(At) Hopkins Park pool, the renovations are still continuing. Things are moving forward. (We’re) prepared for the painting, door frames, windows,” he said. Lewis confirmed that they are on track and aiming for a completion date in January!
This update is especially exciting for swimming enthusiasts, families looking for fun weekend activities, and anyone who relishes the idea of a refreshing dip after a hot day. With the summer sun beckoning, anticipation is building for the reopening of this community favorite.
Coble mentioned that the plan includes spreading out the payments over the coming years. This smart financial move will ease the impact on the recreation commission’s budget while simultaneously ensuring that golf lovers continue to enjoy a high-quality gaming experience. “It’s a very successful golf course. And it’s a recreational feature that people want. I think that’s just part of the mission of the recreation commission,” he emphasized. To say that the golf course is successful would be an understatement, and the new carts are bound to make the golfing experience even more enjoyable!
As we look forward to next spring, let’s keep our fingers crossed for that completion date and get ready to dive back into our favorite community activities!
