HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC – Pockets Full of Sunshine, a local charity dedicated to bringing joy to adults with special needs, received a generous donation from SERG Restaurant Group, a notable Lowcountry restaurant chain. Contributing $25,000 through their “Community Strong” program, SERG shines a little extra “sunshine” on the charity and the “Rays”, as the special needs adults affiliated with the organization are affectionately called.
Pockets Full of Sunshine has earned a reputation for their ongoing support for special needs adults in the local community. Nicole DelMastro, Executive Director of Pockets Full of Sunshine, expressed great anticipation for what this new donation could bring. “We’re really looking forward to being even more of the tapestry of Hilton Head and Bluffton,” said DelMastro.
Rob Jordan, Founder of SERG Restaurant Group, felt confident that their donation would enable the charity to continue its important work. “I know we can make a difference with them,” Jordan stated, emphasizing the transformative effects of their events on the lives of these adults.
The generous donation goes toward the renovation of a new 5000 square-foot facility, securing a permanent location for Pockets Full of Sunshine and the Rays they serve. “Having the opportunity to purchase this building and become a permanent fixture in Hilton Head and serving all of you for our county has been really a gift to us,” DelMastro remarked.
Although the building may currently appear unremarkable, plans for the space include not only an expansion to accommodate more special needs adults but also the development of comprehensive, quality programming. DelMastro indicated intentions to “focus really on life skills, [and] getting them community facing.”
Carol Bartholomew, the co-founder of Pockets Full of Sunshine, highlighted the importance of the program for individuals like her own daughter. “It not only gives her purpose and meaning, but it’s her family,” Bartholomew shared.
Aside from their sizable donation, SERG Group has planned a benefit set for October, with all proceeds benefiting Pockets Full of Sunshine.
Pockets Full of Sunshine is currently fund-raising for their building renovation, which is estimated to cost upwards of $200,000. With additional support, they hope to complete the facility within the next year, providing a space of sunshine for the Rays to enjoy.
