A prominent Lowcountry restaurant chain, SERG Group, has stepped up to better the lives of adult special needs members of Pockets Full of Sunshine — a local charity working towards enriching the lives of adults with special needs. The former generously donated to the latter, ensuring a ray of light beams over the charity’s future.

Nicole DelMastro, the Executive Director of Pockets Full of Sunshine, said, “We’re really looking forward to being even more of the tapestry of Hilton Head and Bluffton.”

The charity has been aiding adults with special needs, making substantial strides in the community. A recent donation of $25,000 by the SERG Group bolsters the organization’s efforts to further their cause.

Rob Jordan, the Founder of SERG Restaurant Group, said, “I know we can make a difference with them. And it’s just the joy that you see when we go to events and help them. And it’s just one of the great joys I have in my life.”

The funds will be directed towards the refurbishment of a new 5,000 square foot facility which will serve as a new home for the ‘Rays’ – as the special needs adults supported by Pockets Full of Sunshine fondly call themselves.

Significant Impact Through the New Facility

DelMastro explained the significance of owning a dedicated space for the charity’s work: “We knew we needed a space of our own so that we could greater impact the community and the adults with disabilities. Having the opportunity to purchase this building and become a permanent fixture in Hilton Head and serving all of you for our county has been really a gift to us.”

The currently vacant office space will soon be filled with ‘sunshine’ as it transforms into a hub of activities and programs designed to benefit the special needs adults associated with the charity. Further expanding on the plans for the new facility, DelMastro mentioned that they aim at providing “more quality programing” and focusing on “life skills, getting them community facing.”

According to Carol Bartholomew, co-founder of Pockets Full of Sunshine, the efforts of the charity not only give purpose to the special needs adults but also creates a close-knit community for them.

Future Plans

The donation made by the SERG Group is the largest-ever contribution received via their ‘Community Strong’ program. The group is also planning a benefit set for October, the proceeds from which will further aid the charity.

Pockets Full of Sunshine is currently raising funds to refurbish their new building, which is estimated to cost around $200,000. They hope to have the site ready for their ‘Rays’ to enjoy within the next year.
