Get ready, Columbia! The second annual Healthy Laughter comedy weekend is just around the corner, and it’s set to bring tons of fun and important health conversations your way from November 29 to December 1. If you love comedy and care about health, this is an event you won’t want to miss!
Hosted by WF Media Group, this exciting weekend promises to be a fantastic time with a lineup full of top-notch comedians, including the hilarious Joey I.L.O. and Donald Martin. Each night will feature a variety of performances designed to keep you giggling and feeling good.
And here’s a treat! If you register for the Health Expo happening on Saturday afternoon, you can snag a ticket to that night’s comedy show for FREE! Yes, you heard that right. A night of laughter can be yours without spending a dime!
The Health Expo on Saturday afternoon is where the fun meets health. Get ready for free biometric health screenings courtesy of PRISMA Health, delicious food from local food trucks, a panel discussion all about Black health and wellness, giveaways, and even some groovy music. It’s a lively atmosphere aimed at combining health education with a good dose of laughter.
Eunissa Warnock, co-founder of WF Media Group, shared her vision for this event, saying, “Our hope is that as we’re disseminating information regarding health and wellness, it will start to impact people’s lives.” What a noble goal! It’s not just about cracking jokes; it’s also about making a difference.
The inspiration for Healthy Laughter comes from a deeply personal place. Akintunde Warnock, a touring comedian and Eunissa’s husband, launched the original event in Savannah over two decades ago to encourage African American men to get prostate exams. Attendees who participated in screenings received a four-pack of tickets to Akintunde’s comedy show, making healthcare a bit more palatable.
Fast forward to today, and the event has grown and transformed. Eunissa felt the urge to bring Healthy Laughter to Columbia after facing her own health struggles a few years ago when she was diagnosed with blood clots caused by stress. She understands how crucial it is to manage stress, noting that it’s one of the primary focuses for Healthy Laughter. She emphasizes, “Stress management is so important.” Isn’t it refreshing to hear that the event is focused not only on laughter but also mental well-being?
The entire Healthy Laughter comedy show and Health Expo will take place at 124 Diamond Lane. Whether you want to relax with friends at a comedy show or take care of your health with screenings and informative talks, this weekend is gearing up to be a blast!
