Golf Tournament to Raise Funds for Police Non-Profit

Lexington Police Department Foundation to Benefit From Charitable Event

In an effort to support community-focused programs and contribute to the continued operation of its department, the Lexington Police Department Foundation, a non-profit organization, is hosting a charity golf tournament on Monday, April 29.

The 6th Annual Lexington Police Department Golf Tournament is set to take place at the well-known Golden Hills Golf & Country Club. Currently, team entries are open with a maximum allowance of 25 four-player teams. Each team would require an entry fee of $400, which covers a catered breakfast and lunch, raffle prizes, and several on-course challenges with prizes. Tournament winners can also expect to receive individual trophies.

The organizers have planned for additional fun, offering Mulligan packages for purchase at the sign-in stage on the tournament day. As the event draws closer, the Department is working towards acquiring local corporate and business sponsorships. Apart from financial support, businesses are also welcomed to contribute items for player gift bags and raffle prizes.

Local Veteran Honored with ‘Living Legend’ Proclamation

Meanwhile, in other community news, a veteran from Lexington received a “Living Legend” proclamation for her admirable service in Vietnam. Miriam Rhame Medley was honoured in a ceremony held on March 14. The proclamation originated from The Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation in Washington, DC.

The celebration, graced by friends, family, and the South Carolina Ambassadors, Shelly Langston, Barb Kucharczyk, and Denise Scarboro, praised Medley for her contributions to the American efforts in Vietnam as part of the American Red Cross Clubmobile Program.

Medley, who arrived in Saigon in 1966, was transferred to An Khe, home of the 1st Cavalry Airmobile Division. She provided recreational programs and activities to military recreation centers and mess halls, bringing a ‘touch of home’ to the men stationed in isolated areas and far from the United States mainland.

Following her assignment in Vietnam, she served at Subic Bay Naval Hospital in the Philippines from 1971 to 1973 where she continued her work in the Red Cross as a Hospital Field Director.

This recognition highlights contributions to the defense of the nation, promotes honor to women in service and is hoped to inspire future leaders.
