Godspeed Coffee Pops Up in Columbia’s Five Points

As of yesterday, Columbia city has been treated to a unique and refreshing caffeine fix. A creative blend of coffee culture and vinyl nostalgia has sparked into existence at 727 Saluda St. in Five Points in the former Starbucks location. Godspeed Coffee, the brainchild of Columbia locals Roger Caughman and Kailey Cunningham, has joined forces with the longstanding Papa Jazz Record Shoppe.

A Fresh Brew in an Old Mug

In a distinct departure from the norm, Godspeed Coffee isn’t operating from a fixed location, but rather has embraced the flexibility and community-centered approach of a pop-up shop. As a ‘for hire’ specialty coffee provider, they have partnered with the iconic Papa Jazz Record Shoppe for an exclusive three-week-long stint at Five Points, filling the void left by Starbucks.

The Minds Behind the Mugs

Both veteran baristas, Caughman and Cunningham first met at Drip Coffee and discovered a shared passion for coffee— as well as each other. Their idea of a community-building coffee concept took flight, and the pair chose the economically viable pop-up model to launch their venture. Using their own resources, they’ve conceived Godspeed to bring their vision to the community.

Community and Coffee

True to their mission, the duo aims to build community connections with each pop-up, focusing on providing a welcoming space for the city’s coffee lovers. Customers have also been seen browsing Papa Jazz’s vinyl collection adding an extra layer of vintage charm to their visits. Keep an eye out for where Godspeed will appear next and get ready to be part of an evolving coffee experience.

Local Support

Locals are already responding with enthusiastic support for the concept, and there’s an air of anticipation concerning where Godspeed’s pop-up will appear next. This unique marriage of coffee and culture is one to watch in the vibrant Columbia scene.

Final Thoughts

Godspeed’s innovative business model may well be setting a trend for coffee enthusiasts and community spaces. Their commitment to community-building, coupled with their flexible and novel approach to delivering great coffee, certainly makes them a fresh and exciting addition to Five Points and Columbia’s evolving coffee landscape.
