Girl Scouts of South Carolina Announces Retirement of Respected CEO

Lora Tucker to Step Down After Stellar Service

In Greenville, Washington

The Girl Scouts of South Carolina—Mountains to Midlands (GSSC-MM) has announced the upcoming retirement of its President and CEO, Lora Tucker. Her departure is set for October 31, 2024, signing off a sterling tenure that started in January 2020.

Known for her resilience and strong leadership, Tucker navigated the organization through the unchartered waters brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, which ironically coincided with her start at GSSC-MM. She led the transition to a virtual environment with grace and efficiency, demonstrating her experience and talent.

Distinguished Career & Contributions

With over 40 years at the helm of multifaceted entities, Tucker’s expertise extends to revitalizing organizations, establishing foundational infrastructures, and steering them through transformative periods. Her passion for identifying and building talent based on the belief of fostering growth in individuals – whether in a professional capacity or personal life – resulted in highly engaged teams dedicated to their organizational mission and goals.

Lora’s extensive background covers organizational development, strategic learning, diversity initiatives, membership and fund development, public policy, and legislative advocacy across military and nonprofit sectors. Before joining GSSC-MM, she served as the CEO of Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana and as a council consultant to Girl Scouts of the USA. She had also been CEO of CenterLink, a prominent national non-profit.

Lora, a retired Army Colonel, embodies lifelong learning, having dedicated her life to executive leadership, development, and coaching. A lifelong Girl Scout and Gold Award Girl Scout, her military accolades include the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star Medal.

Reflecting on her Journey

“My heart is filled with sadness and gratitude,” Tucker shared, reflecting on her time at GSSC-MM. “My time here has been extraordinary.” As she embarks on a new life chapter centered around her family, her departure indeed marks the end of an era.

The Search for the Next CEO

As part of the transition, a dedicated CEO search committee has been formed, consisting of current board members and community leaders. Under the leadership of Vida Jennings, the Committee Chair, the team will partner with Find Great People (FGP), an Executive Search Firm based in Greenville, South Carolina. FGP, which also has branches in Nashville, Charleston, and Columbia, will manage a comprehensive search process to identify the next successful CEO to guide GSSC-MM forward.
