Exciting Art Exhibit “French Moderns” Set to Open at Columbia Museum of Art on October 5, 2024

Exciting Art Exhibit Coming to Columbia: Get Ready for “French Moderns!”

Columbia, the capital of South Carolina, is buzzing with excitement as the Columbia Museum of Art prepares to host a stunning art exhibition titled “French Moderns: Monet to Matisse, 1850 – 1950”. This amazing showcase will kick off on October 5, 2024, and art enthusiasts are in for a real treat!

What’s the Buzz?

This exhibition is a collaboration with the Brooklyn Museum and features over 50 significant works from a notable collection that highlights the vibrant artistic movements that flourished in and around Paris during a pivotal period in history. From the aftermath of the Revolution of 1848 to the close of World War II, the art world saw radical transformations, and this exhibit captures that excitement.

Meet the Masters

Art lovers will get the chance to see masterpieces from some of the most esteemed names in the art world including Claude Monet, known for his beautiful, light-infused landscapes, and Henri Matisse, famous for his bold colors and dynamic compositions. Other legendary figures such as Paul Cézanne, Edgar Degas, and Marc Chagall will also be featured. Can you imagine standing in front of a painting by Monet or gazing at a work by Matisse? It’s an opportunity that doesn’t come every day!

Get Involved with the Preview Party

But wait, there’s more! To celebrate the grand opening, there will be a special French Moderns Preview Party on October 4, the night before the exhibit officially opens. This is your chance to enjoy a unique evening filled with art, music, and mingling with fellow art enthusiasts. Tickets for this exclusive event went on sale to the public on September 6, so if you haven’t gotten yours yet, now’s the time to act!

Why Should You Go?

This exhibition is a rare jewel for the Columbia community. According to CMA Senior Curator Michael Neumeister, “It is rare for works with this degree of importance and quality to travel outside of major institutions.” This makes French Moderns a truly special occasion, offering a glance at pivotal moments in art history that impacted everything from technique to perspective. As you walk through the gallery, you’ll feel a connection to a time when artists pushed boundaries and explored new ideas.

What to Expect

During your visit, you can expect to have your mind opened to various artistic movements including Realism, Impressionism, and Surrealism. Each movement has its unique characteristics that reflect the spirit of the time, and you’ll find that each artwork tells a compelling story of its own. With so much to see, you’ll want to take your time exploring the pieces and soaking in the atmosphere.

Plan Your Visit

Mark your calendars because French Moderns will be running at the Columbia Museum of Art until January 5, 2024. Whether you’re a regular at museums or a first-time visitor, this exhibition is a fantastic way to delve into the world of French art and culture. So grab your friends, family, or even make a solo trip, and experience this incredible journey through time and creativity!

While you’re enjoying the art, don’t forget to take in the local weather—mostly cloudy with a chance of a light afternoon shower but luckily, temperatures will be a pleasant 87°F. Sounds like a beautiful day to spend at the museum!

Hope to see everyone there as we dive into French art and history together. It promises to be a memorable experience!
