After the death of their owner and the impending sale of their home, four elderly German Shepherds are suddenly in grave need of loving new homes. The dogs have been living alone in a vacant Columbia property getting through the last year bereft of human companionship after their owner’s unfortunate demise. But as the morning light of this Friday hits, the house is slated to be sold and the dogs must exit the premises.
In this dire situation, Laura Mitchell, owner of Wescott Acres Pet Rescue, received a call requesting assistance. “This is the hardest case I’ve come across. It’s heartrending and we urgently need to help,” Mitchell stated. Though these canines had been surviving on their own with occasional food and bathroom breaks courtesy of well-meaning strangers, the approaching deadline calls for an immediate solution.
“Come Friday morning, 8:30 sharp, these dogs should have relocated. Therefore, we are desperately hoping for the community to help in fostering or permanently homing these lovely pets,” Mitchell added.
The four dogs seeking homes are Spencer, Stormy, Bailey, and Casey. Each of them, while friendly and sociable with both humans and other dogs, has a distinct personality. Spencer and Stormy are the more extroverted two, while Bailey and Casey are reserved, warming up to new people gradually.
Denise Wilkinson of Pawmetto Lifeline sadly notes that pets are often neglected when people draft their future plans, especially directives for pet care after the owners’ death. “Frequently, family or friends cannot take the pet in, leading to these animals being left behind. While some kind souls do try to feed them, these pets often don’t have great outcomes,” explained Wilkinson.
If you can offer a helping hand and a loving home to these four furries, please contact Pawmetto Lifeline at (803) 465-9150 during their office hours, or Denise Wilkinson at (803) 606-4149 outside of office hours. In a further blow to the shelter, their air conditioning has failed, requiring urgent fostering or adoption for their 75 current feline residents at a discounted adoption fee of $25.
Whether you’re a cat lover, a dog lover, or both, this is a perfect chance to show your appreciation for these wonderfully loyal creatures by providing them a loving home. As always, stay connected for further updates on this and other pressing animal welfare situations.
