The holiday bells are ringing in Columbia, and while many of us are busy planning festive dinners and stuffing our shopping carts, there are families in our own community who might need a little extra help putting food on their holiday tables. Thankfully, there are local organizations stepping up to lend a hand. So, if you’re looking to spread some cheer or just seeking some assistance, here’s a rundown of food giveaways happening right here in the Midlands region. Remember, these events are popular, so supplies are limited and it’s all on a first-come, first-served basis.

Here’s what to expect in the upcoming days:

  • Tuesday, November 19: Don’t miss the Give Thanks Giveaway by the Richland County Recreation Commission (RCRC). It’s a drive-through event starting at 2 p.m. at the Garners Ferry Sports Complex located at 8620 Garners Ferry Rd., Hopkins. Get there early!
  • Wednesday, November 20: Join the Bountiful Harvest event hosted by Serve & Connect! From 11 a.m.-3 p.m., they will distribute boxes filled with holiday groceries and frozen chicken, plus a mouth-watering catered meal from Hudson’s Smokehouse at the Icehouse Pavilion in downtown Lexington.
  • Thursday, November 21: RCRC is back with another Give Thanks Giveaway at 2 p.m., this time at St. Andrews Park, located at 920 Beatty Rd.. Make sure to grab your holiday goodies!
  • Saturday, November 23: If you miss the earlier giveaways, you can still catch the RCRC Give Thanks Giveaway at 10 a.m. at Crane Creek Gymnasium, 7405-B Fairfield Rd., Columbia.
  • Sunday, November 24: Molina Healthcare of South Carolina and Serve & Connect are teaming up for a delightful nonperishable holiday food distribution along with turkeys from 2-5 p.m. at Serve & Connect headquarters, 8131 Brookfield Rd.. Supplies are limited, so get there early!
  • Monday, November 25: Look forward to the Feed the Families Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway by Victory Promotions and Palmetto Talent Agency from 6-8:30 p.m. at SPACE 803, 2732 Decker Blvd.. Such a great chance for families to receive a turkey!
  • Tuesday, November 26: Don’t forget the Turkey Giveaway brought to you by Stanley Law Group and Toliver’s Mane Event starting at 10 a.m. at 6102 North Main St.. They will be handing out one turkey per vehicle until they run out!
  • Thanksgiving Day, November 28: If you’re looking for a community feast, the Chappelle Memorial AME Church is hosting a Community Outreach Dinner in honor of the late Edith General. You can join in either by walking in or driving through from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at 1101 Pine St. Enjoy a wonderful meal and the spirit of giving!
