In Forest Acres, South Carolina, a fire erupted at the Samuel A. Heyward Career and Technology Center late Thursday night, according to the Forest Acres Police Department (FAPD). The Columbia-Richland Fire Department (CRFD), together with the FAPD, were called to the scene around 9:45 p.m. The ongoing investigation into the genesis of the fire is underway, with initial reports indicating it is not deemed suspicious.
The Heyward Center is a structure under the stewardship of the Richland County School District One, dedicated to offering various trade-specific classes to high school students. Programs include study in areas such as culinary arts and electronics. As per the report, the turnout from the CRFD promptly worked to suppress the fire predominantly emanating from the building’s roof, which was causing the diffusion of smoke throughout the center.
The fire was efficiently quelled, preventing further damage and ensuring the safety of emergency personnel. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Presently, officials are concentrated on establishing the origin and cause of the fire at the educational facility. Thus far, it has been suggested that there is no suspicion of foul play involved in the incident. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
Following the incident, community members and officials have expressed their relief that no injuries were sustained and stressed the importance of rapid emergency response. Further information or additional updates regarding the status of the career and technology center will be disclosed as they become available.
