COLUMBIA, S.C. – A Sparkling Night for a Good Cause!
On a beautiful Friday evening, hundreds of warm-hearted folks gathered near downtown Columbia for a night filled with twinkling lights and festive cheer at the annual Festival of Trees fundraiser hosted by Prisma Health Midlands Foundation. This beloved event is not just a holiday celebration but a crucial fundraiser that aims to support the Prisma Health Children’s Hospital Midlands.
Lighting Up the Holiday Spirit
Katie Williams from Prisma Health Midlands Foundation couldn’t contain her excitement as she described the importance of the occasion. “Tonight is our Festival of Trees and donor celebration. This is our signature fundraising event for the children’s hospital, and it’s the official kickoff of the holiday season,” she explained with a warming smile. She elaborated on how the funds from this event directly benefit the hospital and its little patients. “It’s because of events like this that we can enhance patient care and support programs for children needing our services,” Williams said.
Decking the Halls with Generosity
Upon entering, guests were greeted by an array of stunning Christmas trees, each **gracefully decorated by local businesses and individuals**. These charming creations weren’t just for show; they were auctioned off to raise much-needed funds. One notable contributor this year was the Beamer Family Foundation, who generously donated a whopping $50,000 to help the children’s hospital.
A Heartwarming Story of Resilience
The event was even more meaningful for parents like Tyler and Lindsey Priester, who shared their heartfelt story of gratitude towards Prisma Children’s Hospital. “When my son was just shy of two years old, he tragically fell into our swimming pool. He was in the PICU for about eight or nine days and then went to the standard floor for therapy. My son is now nine years old and has no developmental delays whatsoever. We are just so blessed,” said Lindsey, with tears of thankfulness in her eyes. Tyler added, “You don’t know when you’re going to need the children’s hospital. We’re very fortunate to have it.”
Special Services for Young Patients
The night wasn’t just about auctions and warm stories; it also showcased the amazing services provided by the hospital. Dr. Jeff Holloway, who runs the concussion clinic at Prisma Children’s Hospital, shared insights about the unique clinic. “It’s one of the few in the state, and it’s a service where I provide some support that patients don’t usually get otherwise,” he explained. He also doubles as a mascot for the hospital, embodying Buddy the Bear, whose presence brings joy and comfort to the children in the hospital.
A Successful Evening for a Great Cause
As the evening progressed, organizers of the Festival of Trees expressed their joy in witnessing the community response. They were thrilled to report that the turnout this year exceeded their expectations, proving once again how generous and supportive Columbia can be. “We are incredibly grateful to all those who continue to uplift the Prisma Health Midlands Foundation and ensure that we can provide quality care to our little ones,” one of the organizers said with noticeable pride.
