Hello everyone! If you’re in the Lake Murray area, you’re in for some fantastic events this September. Grab your fishing gear, and get ready for a fun-filled experience that’s perfect for families and fishing enthusiasts alike!
To kick off an amazing three days of world-class competition, the Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board and USAngling are thrilled to announce Youth Angling Day, set to take place on September 26th from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Gibson Pond Park in Lexington. This event is absolutely free for children aged 4 to 18, making it an inclusive opportunity for kids of all abilities to dive into the wonderful world of fishing.
During this lively afternoon, kids will learn valuable skills through the International Game Fish Association’s Passport to Fishing Program. They will have hands-on experiences, learning from professional anglers, coaches, and ambassadors from USAngling.
So, what can participants expect? Well, there’s a whole lot of fun lined up! Kids will receive fishing instruction and hands-on practice with basic fishing gear. They will even get to learn knot tying techniques while engaging in fun casting games using spinning rods and reels. And yes, fishing on the pond with guidance from experts will be a highlight, where they’ll learn how to handle hooks, bait their lines, and safely release their catches.
Vickie Davis, the Senior VP of Funding and Events at CCLMC, expressed her excitement about the event: “We’re thrilled to bring Youth Angling Day to Gibson Pond Park. This is a fantastic opportunity for kids of all abilities to dive into the world of fishing, learn from the pros, and enjoy a day of fun and education,” she shared.
But that’s just the beginning! After Youth Angling Day, the excitement continues with three days of thrilling competition from September 27 to 29 right on the waters of beautiful Lake Murray. This is your chance to witness the Pan American/USAngling Challenge Cup Kayak Championship with elite kayak anglers from around the globe!
Competitors from countries including USA, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Philippines, Venezuela, and many more will showcase their skills in this prestigious event. It’s an incredible gathering of talent as Pan American nations compete for the 3rd Pan American Kayak Fishing Championship title, while other international participants vie for the coveted USAngling Challenge Cup.
Mark your calendars, Lake Murray locals! Whether you’re looking to introduce your child to fishing or you’re an adult wanting to catch the latest paddling action, there’s something for everyone at these events. You can bring the whole family for a fantastic weekend filled with fishing, fun, and community spirit!
