Irmo, South Carolina – The community is mourning the loss of a wonderful soul, Elinor Pais Fatato, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. At the age of 70, Elinor touched the lives of many, leaving behind cherished memories that will be held close to the hearts of her family and friends.
Born in Tarrytown, NY, on January 2, 1955, Elinor was no stranger to the bustling life of New York City. She grew up in a loving family, cherished by her parents, Elio and Jennie Pais, who preceded her in death. Elinor later moved to Irmo, South Carolina, where she continued to fill her life with love and joy.
Elinor is survived by three adoring children: Janelle Pietrobono, Angela Williams, and Philip Fatato, who all remember her as a dedicated mom, always there to support them through thick and thin. She took immense pride in being a grandmother, and her grandchildren were the lights of her life. Elinor enjoyed sharing stories and making wonderful memories with them.
Coming from a large family, Elinor was the beloved sister of two brothers, Joe Pais and Frank Pais, as well as two sisters, Janet Pais-O’Gorman and Mary Pais. Love and camaraderie ran deep in her family, and her long-time partner, Philip Cardone, enjoyed countless moments of joy traveling and visiting their loved ones together.
Elinor’s educational journey began at Irvington High School, and she later pursued higher education at Pace University in Westchester, NY. Her passion for learning led her to become a dedicated school teacher, where she inspired countless students over the years. Later in her career, she thrived in the world of sales and marketing as an account manager and became known for forming lasting friendships with her colleagues. Her warmth and kindness made her a treasured part of every workplace she graced.
A devout follower of Christ, Elinor’s life was guided by her strong faith. She was described as someone who was full of life, with a bright smile that could light up any room. Elinor had an innate ability to connect with everyone she met, never leaving a stranger behind. Her kindness, selflessness, and thoughtfulness extended to everyone around her, making it easy to see why she was so loved.
Those who had the pleasure of sitting at Elinor’s table would often rave about her incredible Italian dishes. Her home was a haven of warmth and laughter, a place where family and friends gathered to enjoy delicious food and heartfelt conversations. She loved sharing stories about her life in New York, bringing those experiences to life with her captivating storytelling.
To honor her memory, a memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Dunbar Funeral Home in Irmo, SC. Following the memorial service, there will be a time for visitation, allowing friends and family to share their treasured memories of Elinor. In her honor, the family requests charitable donations to Gateway Baptist Church’s Benevolence Fund, reflecting her lifelong commitment to helping others.
