Lexington Home's Dinosaur Display Brings Holiday Cheer with a Jurassic Twist

Lexington House Transforms into Dino Delight This Holiday Season

When you think of the holiday season, you might envision crisp white snow, festive cheer, and beautifully decorated trees. But over in Lexington, that cozy holiday vibe mixes with Jurassic charm! The Price household on Augusta Road/Highway 1 has become a go-to spot for anyone looking to catch a glimpse of some friendly giants from the past — yes, we’re talking about dinosaurs!

A Dazzling Display of Dinosaurs

As the holiday lights sparkle against the backdrop of a flock of colorful creatures, it’s impossible to miss this quirky roadside attraction. With a total of 11 dinosaurs adorning the yard, it’s safe to say Christopher Price has turned his home into a local landmark. What started a couple of years ago as a simple project for his two young sons has now morphed into an entire dinosaur kingdom.

The inspiration for this dinosaur display first roared to life during Halloween in 2022. However, the creativity didn’t stop there. “I kept adding more every year,” explained Price. “The boys were really into it!” The dino collection includes a mix of fascinating species from a pterodactyl to a velociraptor, and they add a unique touch to the neighborhood.

A Tyrannosaurus Rex Named Lex

Among the troupe, the star of the show is undoubtedly Lex, the massive Tyrannosaurus rex. Lex has become a permanent fixture in the Price yard and even received a dramatic makeover this year. Painted bright pink as part of a fundraiser for breast cancer research, this adorable dinosaur is adorned with the names of around 80 people who are currently fighting or have fought cancer. Price proudly shared that his initiative raised $1,500 for the American Cancer Society.

More Than Just a Holiday Display

Every December, families in the area look forward to driving past the Prices’ house, with the colorful lights twinkling above the dinosaurs. But it isn’t just sensational sights that bring people in. This past Halloween, Price estimated around 300 trick-or-treaters made their way to his door, all clamoring for a chance to snap a picture with the dino display.

Price’s DIY dinosaur passion has brought him some local fame, and he might just be moving beyond just foam creatures. “I have other ideas, but I can’t get away from dinosaurs,” he admitted. “That’s kind of what’s given me my notoriety.”

A Passion for Building

Turning his imagination into reality isn’t new for Price. His love for construction began when he crafted a giant set of megalodon shark teeth for one of his sons. From there, he embarked on constructing the impressive spinosaurus, a colossal 24 feet long and 11 feet tall. And if that doesn’t amaze you, his future plans involve adding a towering brontosaurus to the lineup. Talk about dino-mite!

The display is also a nod to pop culture, especially the beloved Jurassic Park movie. Price has gotten creative, building a version of the iconic Jeep that can be seen crossing over a stream of blue Christmas lights in the yard. Plus, he crafted a triceratops laying down, reminiscent of the sick dinosaur from the movie. “I still get goosebumps watching that,” he confessed, showing his passion for the cinematic masterpiece.

The Holiday Spirit with a Twist

So, if you happen to be driving past Lexington this holiday season, be sure to keep an eye out for the intriguing combination of dinosaurs and twinkling lights. The Price household invites you to come see this delightful spectacle that has become a cherished tradition for families and friends in the community. Whether you’re a dino enthusiast or just looking for something different, this display is sure to bring a smile!

As the holiday spirit fills the air, it’s clear that Lexington has found a unique way to celebrate — with a roar of excitement, laughter, and of course, dinosaurs! Who could’ve imagined getting into the festive spirit with a touch of the Jurassic era?
