Columbia, we have a winner! In a delightful twist of cuteness, the city has chosen its most adorable cat through the very first Cutest Cat in Columbia poll. And taking home the title (along with plenty of catnip treats) is none other than Diego, a charming 1-year-old orange and white cat. Throughout the multi-day voting process, Diego managed to capture the hearts and votes of many proud cat lovers in our community.
Diego wasn’t just your average contestant in this pawsome competition. He was one of 38 feline contenders who initially stepped into the spotlight for the title. This friendly competition allowed every resident in Columbia to submit their beloved pet, although only subscribers could cast their votes. As the competition heated up, Diego shone the brightest. In the final leg of the poll, he racked up an impressive 724 votes, which made up an incredible 68% of the total 1,061 votes cast. Talk about a fan favorite!
In the end, the runner-up was Pepper, who gathered 260 votes. Meanwhile, Dora came in third with 56 votes, and Ashlee ended up with 21 votes. But let’s not dwell on the numbers; instead, let’s celebrate the winner!
So, how did Diego start his journey to becoming the cutest cat in Columbia? His owner, Khyra Taylor, shared a heartwarming story about how he became a part of their family. It all began when her mom took in a community cat that had given birth to two kittens. “One week, she asked our family to ‘kitten-sit’ while she went out of town, after which she was going to give them to a permanent home,” Khyra wrote in an email. “We planned to care for them until it was time for them to leave, but they immediately stole our hearts, and our home became their forever home.”
Clearly, it was love at first sight for Diego. He quickly settled into family life and made it full of joy, cuddles, and plenty of playtime. “We love him so much,” Khyra mentioned. “He’s always the first to greet us in the morning, and he doesn’t let a day go by without having play and cuddle time.” Isn’t that cute?
We can’t discuss Diego without mentioning his favorite foods! This fluffy feline prefers delicious meals of chicken, salmon, and tuna. When he’s not indulging in tasty treats, you can find Diego happily playing or snoozing inside. He does have a soft spot for the great outdoors too, where he likes to lounge in his cozy play tent.
As for his favorite playthings, Diego can’t resist sparkle and catnip balls. With such an active lifestyle and abundant love, it’s no wonder that Diego has captured the hearts of so many in Columbia.
With Diego crowned as the official winner of Columbia’s Cutest Cat contest, the Taylor family is planning a fun-filled celebration. “We are planning a ‘Cutie PAW-Tootie’ celebration with toys and his favorite crunchy and lickable treats,” Khyra excitedly shared. It sounds like Diego is in for a purr-fect day where he can be showered with love and attention!
In the end, Columbia, this contest not only showcased the cuteness of our furry friends but also highlighted the strong bond between pets and their families. Here’s to Diego, the cutest champion of Columbia, and all the joy and warmth that pets bring into our lives!
