Community Mourns Loss of Columbia Native Xavier Jackson

Columbia, S.C. — The heart of Columbia has been struck with sadness as the family of Xavier Jackson, a 22-year-old native, seeks answers following his tragic death. Found on the 3400 block of Bluff Road, the situation has left many in the community, especially his loved ones, grappling with feelings of anger, confusion, and deep sorrow.

Speaking candidly, Jackson’s aunt, Lajuanda Ravenell, expressed the anguish of a family in mourning. “I can’t even describe what I am feeling in that situation, and I can’t say what I want to say, but I’m just angry,” she shared, articulating the unimaginable pain that comes with losing a family member in such a way. “I want to ask the person responsible: ‘Why?’”

Many in the family were starting to fear for the worst when they couldn’t reach Jackson on Monday night. The feeling of dread became all too real when devastating news came the next day. Ravenell shared, “After we all kept calling and got no response we all had a feeling it was him, I just felt it. He always responds to our calls.” Her voice faltered as she recalled receiving the news from Jackson’s girlfriend, who heartbreakingly saw his body on the road without realizing it was him.

Family Memories Shine Through the Darkness

As the family struggles with their grief, they are coming together to remember the joyful moments they shared with Jackson. His young nephew, Kalyrick White, affectionately called him “Buba” and reminisced about their adventures. “My favorite-most memory of him is doing fireworks with him and going to church with him,” he said. Reflecting on their time together, he added, “He even caught a praying mantis for me, that was fun,” showcasing the special connection they had.

Jackson’s family painted a picture of him as a relentless jokester, always bringing laughter and light into their lives. “His style of clothing is so unique; I’ve never seen nobody that put on jeans and always cut and slit it at the bottom – even the kids’ jeans for school,” Ravenell fondly remembered, showcasing Jackson’s unique sense of style that distinguished him from his peers.

But beyond his fashion sense, Jackson was an ambitious individual with dreams of success. His cousin, Koneisha White, recalled a conversation before his passing, saying, “It’s crazy because the last time I saw him, he said … we’re all going to be on T.V. together, but I didn’t think it was going to be in this way right here.” The pain of loss was evident in her voice, stating simply, “I miss him.”

Investigation and Community Support

As the family is still searching for answers, the Columbia Police Department has yet to release information on what they believe may have led to Jackson’s death. The investigation remains ongoing, and the family holds on to hope that answers will eventually surface.

In the face of such tragedy, Jackson’s family encourages those wishing to contribute to their journey of healing to donate through their fundraising page. Their love for Jackson is palpable, and they aim to honor his memory as they navigate this dark chapter in their lives.

To Jackson’s family and friends, his light continues to shine brightly. The moments filled with laughter, memories of warmth, and the hope of future dreams remain forever etched in their hearts.
