Columbia Woman’s Morning Routine Disrupted by Surprise Snake in Bathroom

Columbia Woman’s Morning Takes a Wild Turn with Snake Surprise

In an unexpected twist to what could have been a typical Tuesday morning, a resident of Columbia, South Carolina, had a heart-stopping encounter at around 5 a.m. She stumbled into her bathroom, only to be greeted by a rather large and uninvited guest — a striking ball python lounging behind her toilet!

Starting the Day with a Scream

Imagine waking up and walking into your bathroom to find a snake! This brave woman’s reaction was completely understandable; she screamed and immediately called for help. After all, encountering a ball python in the bathroom is not exactly an everyday occurrence!

According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, initially, there was some mystery surrounding this unanticipated guest. The snake was not a pet of the resident, and the incident report didn’t offer any information regarding its length or age. However, what was clear was that neither the woman nor the snake sustained any injuries during this surprising encounter.

Cops to the Rescue

Upon receiving the call, local deputies swiftly made their way to the scene at the Rice Terrace Apartments and Townhomes, located at 107 Rice Terrace Drive. In an effort that was equal parts amusing and heroic, they successfully extracted the exotic creature, placing it gently into a pillowcase. Master Deputy Alexandra Salrin exclaimed, “We were able to provide a solution to the resident quickly and save the snake’s life!” Talk about a twist of fate!

What Caused the Flood?

In an interesting turn of events, the incident report mentioned that the bathroom was flooded, but it didn’t go into detail about how the snake was responsible for the plumbing drama. Maybe it was just as surprised as the homeowner! Other than some frayed nerves and the water issue, everything ended smoothly.

Community Action Team to the Rescue

Deputy Shannon Huffman from the Community Action Team responded to the frantic call. Having been with the sheriff’s department for nearly four years, Huffman was prepared for such unique challenges. The sheriff’s department themselves acknowledged the unusual nature of this call but assured that their team is trained to handle a wide variety of incidents, exotic pets included!

As Salrin noted, “This was definitely a unique call for service for us.” Thankfully, Huffman has experience working with a mix of animals and felt comfortable handling this peculiar situation.

A Mystery Snake with No Owner?

The sheriff’s department remains puzzled as to how the snake came to be in the apartment. Given its size, some speculate it may have been someone’s escaped pet; however, as of now, no one has come forward to claim it. In the realm of wild stories, this one certainly takes the cake!

New Home for the Python

Worry not, the ball python is in good hands! Following the incident, the serpent was taken home by one of the department’s Operations deputies. It’s safe to say that this snake’s story won’t end with it being left to fend for itself in the wild.

Stay Updated!

If you think this story is wild, just wait for any potential updates! As this situation evolves, more information will certainly come to light, and everyone involved will just have another tale to tell.

For now, the mystery of the snake at Rice Terrace Apartments adds a touch of excitement to the otherwise ordinary lives of the residents in Columbia. Who knew a morning bathroom trip could lead to such an adventure?
