Columbia Gears Up for a Rainy Day and a Heartwarming Fundraiser!
Hey there, Columbia! If you’re anything like me, your plans for the day might hinge a bit on the weather report. Earlier today, the forecast revealed that we’re looking at periods of rain throughout the day, with a high of just 57°F. So, don’t forget your umbrella, folks! With a 90% chance of rain, it might be a good idea to take a cozy day indoors. The winds are expected to be gentle at 5 to 10 mph from the ENE, and there’s a chance we’ll see some clearing later on this cloudy day. Overnight, temperatures are expected to dip to 44°F, which means it’s a great night for warm blankets and hot cocoa! 🍫☕
But Wait, There’s More on This Rainy Day!
Okay, now that we’ve covered the weather, let’s talk about something truly inspiring happening in our community. Just last week, the annual Columbia Signature Chefs Auction took place on November 7th, and let me tell you, it was a night to remember!
The March of Dimes knows how to throw a party! This event, which has been a highlight for 28 years, serves as their premier black-tie fundraiser. With the mission of fighting for the health of all moms and babies, this year’s event was bolstered by the generous support of Jim Hudson Cadillac. It’s crucial work considering that each day in the U.S., two women die from pregnancy-related causes, and sadly, two babies lose their lives every hour. It’s heart-wrenching statistics like these that fuel the efforts of the March of Dimes.
Spotlight on the Pirko Family
This year, the 2024 Ambassador Family for Columbia is the amazing Pirko family—Chris, Courtney, and their adorable little one, Harper. Their story is one that speaks to the heart of the community the March of Dimes seeks to help. The resources raised from events like the Signature Chefs Auction allow for essential research, education, advocacy, and support aimed at ensuring that more moms, like Courtney, and their beautiful babies, like Harper, get the healthiest start in life.

A Culinary Adventure Awaits!
The evening was a feast for the senses as it celebrated the culinary excellence of Columbia’s top local chefs. This year’s featured chef was none other than Howard Stephens, a self-taught culinary whiz from Chapin. Starting in the kitchen at a young age, he took the reins at Village Gourmet, a cafe and catering business. His passion for cooking has earned him quite a reputation, and guests were in for a treat with his exquisite offerings.
Fundraising Goals in Sight
As attendees enjoyed a scrumptious meal, they also had the chance to participate in a silent and live auction. The event aims to raise an impressive $275,000 this year to help support healthy moms and strong babies. How amazing is that? Imagine the impact such an amount could have on our community!
So, Columbia, whether you’re braving the rain today or getting cozy at home, let’s take a moment to appreciate the inspiring events happening around us. Every little bit helps, and together, we can make a difference for future generations. Don’t forget to check out the March of Dimes and see how you can lend a hand! 🌧️✨
