Detour signs along a road in Columbia during nighttime construction.
Columbia residents should prepare for nighttime road closures as SCDOT undertakes the Carolina Crossroads project. Key routes including Colonial Life Boulevard and Hardscrabble Road will see temporary closures, starting from 9 PM until 5 AM. Motorists can expect detours using Greystone Boulevard and other local roads. In addition, bridge repairs in Newberry County are planned starting April 28. Staying informed is crucial to avoid delays during these construction activities.
Hey there, Columbia! If you’re planning to hit the roads later this month, you might want to pay attention to a few important updates from the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT). They have some exciting (and, okay, a little inconvenient) news about nighttime road closures for the ongoing Carolina Crossroads project.
Starting from 9 PM on a recent Friday, motorists who usually cruise along Colonial Life Boulevard and the I-126 Westbound ramp will have to navigate some detours. This is part of the big Carolina Crossroads project that aims to improve our local roadways.
The first disruption is hitting the I-126 Westbound ramp leading to Colonial Life Boulevard, which means that if you’re coming from that direction, you’ll be rerouted. The detour will direct you to Bush River Road via Greystone Boulevard to access Colonial Life Boulevard. Pretty straightforward, right?
But wait, there’s more! The on-ramp from Colonial Life Boulevard to Interstate 126 Eastbound will also be closed during these nighttime hours. Again, drivers will need to make use of the Greystone Boulevard interchange. For the visual learners, there’s a handy map of the detour available, so you don’t have to guess where to go.
The good news is that these temporary closures will wrap up by 5 AM the following morning, so if you’re an early bird, you’ll be back on your way before too long!
If you frequent this area, you’ll want to remember to take the detour using North Brisckyard Road, Farrow Road, Longtown Road, and Clemson Road to navigate around the work zone. Planning ahead can save you a lot of time!
As always, when driving in these areas, it’s crucial to follow detour signs and exercise caution. Taking an extra moment to be aware of your surroundings makes a significant difference for everyone on the road.
