Columbia Announces New Recycling and Junk Disposal Schedule to Enhance Convenience for Residents

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Exciting Updates for Recycling and Junk Disposal!

Hey there, Columbia residents! If you’ve been relying on the County’s drop-off sites for your recycling and junk disposal, we have some great news for you. Starting Monday, September 9, there will be a brand-new schedule at both the Lower Richland Drop-Off Center and the Clemson Road Recycling Center. The aim? To make it easier and more convenient for everyone!

What’s Changing?

Both drop-off sites will now be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. That means they’ll be closed on Sundays and Mondays. This is a smart move to help reduce confusion for residents and local businesses alike! No more guessing whether the drop-off sites are open or not. And not to worry, the C&D Landfill Drop-Off Center, located at 1070 Caughman Rd. N, will keep its regular hours: 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays, with Sundays still closed.

Why the Change?

You might be wondering why these changes were implemented. The local authorities realized that it was time to simplify things. Having a consistent schedule helps allocate the staff and resources better, ensuring that all your recycling and disposal needs are met without any hassle. It’s all about making your experience smoother!

What Can You Drop Off?

Speaking of dropping off items, you might be curious about what materials are accepted at the Clemson and Lower Richland sites. Here’s a quick reminder for residential drop-offs:

  • Cardboard
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • Aluminum cans
  • Plastic containers (check the numbers)
  • Mixed paper
  • Electronics (like phones and computers)

However, items like household garbage, clothing, or shoes won’t be accepted at these facilities. But no need to fret! You can take those items to the Waste Management Landfill at 1047 Highway Church Rd. in Elgin for proper disposal. They’re reachable at (803) 744-3345 if you have questions.

Ready to Go Green?

With this new schedule and clear guidelines, it’s the perfect time to get involved with recycling and keeping our community clean. It’s as easy as sorting through your things, gathering the recyclables, and heading to the drop-off centers during the new hours. Every little bit helps in making Columbia a more sustainable and eco-friendly place.

Mark Your Calendar!

So, be sure to mark your calendars for September 9! Whether you’re cleaning out the garage or just trying to sort out your recyclables, the new hours provide a more predictable way to get rid of your junk responsibly. We’re all in this together, and together we can make a difference in our environment.

Stay tuned for more updates, and don’t forget to share this important information with your neighbors and friends. Let’s work together to keep Columbia clean and green! Happy recycling!
