Columbia Celebrates Veterans with Heartfelt Quilts of Valor Ceremony

Columbia Honors Veterans with Quilts of Valor

What a heartfelt day it was in Columbia! On November 4, the Memorial Garden was bustling with warmth and gratitude as the Garden Club of S.C. honored ten remarkable veterans for their service to our nation. Wrapped in love and appreciation, these heroes received beautifully crafted Quilts of Valor, a gesture that speaks volumes about our community’s respect for their sacrifices.

Welcoming Vibes at the Governor’s Mansion

The festivities kicked off with a warm welcome from none other than First Lady Peggy McMaster, who extended her invitation to the serene grounds of the Governor’s Mansion. “We are here to celebrate and honor our veterans,” she said, setting a friendly tone for the event. It’s always nice to see such involvement from our local leaders, showing that they truly care about the men and women who have bravely served our country.

A Meaningful Speech with Heart

As the event progressed, it was clear that heartfelt emotions filled the air. U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson served as the keynote speaker, and his speech echoed the sentiments of gratitude that everyone was feeling. “Our veterans have built the foundation of this great nation,” he proclaimed. His words resonated with the crowd, reminding us all of the profound impact these courageous individuals have made for our freedom and safety.

Quilts of Valor: A Stitch in Time

Did you know that more than 380,000 Quilts of Valor have been given out across the United States? This initiative is all about recognizing our veterans and providing them with a tangible reminder of their bravery. Each quilt is created with care and represents the appreciation of countless Americans. On that special day in Columbia, the following veterans were presented with their quilts:

  • Leslie Bauknight
  • Niki Clingerman
  • Patricia George
  • Gary Miller
  • Roxie Milhouse
  • Steve New
  • Sara Phillips
  • Dawn Redmon
  • Donna Sheehan
  • Marcy Umbrict

Each name marked not just a recipient, but a story of valor and sacrifice. As the veterans accepted their quilts, applause echoed through the garden, symbolizing a community coming together to show their appreciation.

Looking Ahead

It’s events like these that keep the spirit of gratitude alive within our community. The efforts of the Garden Club of S.C. and all those involved are a shining example for us all. Looking forward, we can only hope that more communities follow suit, honoring our veterans with the respect and love they truly deserve.
