Columbia Police successfully found a missing man who was reported endangered by his family after he wandered away from home. Authorities located him safely in West Columbia, bringing much-needed relief to his worried family. In contrast, the community grapples with ongoing searches for other missing individuals, raising critical awareness about mental health resources and community support.
In a heartwarming turn of events, the Columbia Police have confirmed that a missing man was found safe after being reported endangered by his family. The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was last seen at around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. His family reported him missing after he wandered away from his home in the 2100 block of Pickens Street.
Local authorities quickly sprang into action, searching the area in hopes of locating him. Thankfully, their efforts paid off. By 7:30 p.m. that same day, police happily announced that he had been located safe and sound in West Columbia. This was a significant relief for the family, who were undoubtedly anxious during the hours their loved one was missing. It’s always a breath of fresh air when a story like this resolves positively, highlighting the importance of community support and quick action from law enforcement.
While one family gets to breathe a sigh of relief, another family continues to face unanswered questions after the recent recovery of additional remains belonging to a man named Morgan Duncan, who was reported missing back in November 2023. Duncan, just 27 years old when he went missing, raised concerns among his loved ones due to mental health issues and medication needs.
His family first reported him missing from his home located near Springtree Drive, where they found his belongings – including money and his phone – untouched, raising further worries about his well-being. In early December, state workers stumbled upon his remains in an aqueduct while inspecting storm drains near Little Jackson Creek. This grim discovery was unfortunate, especially following the initial recovery of his remains in wooded areas behind the Richland Library back in June.
The updates took a darker turn when two individuals, Eric Greene and Julivia Waller, were arrested in February and charged with Duncan’s murder. While the legal proceedings against Greene are moving forward, it’s worth noting that Waller’s murder charge was dismissed back in April; however, she still faces charges related to resisting arrest and attempted escape.
In an unsettling development, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office is investigating remains that may belong to another missing Columbia man, Delmar Lee Blake Jr. Blake was reported missing from the Columbia area in August 2023. Investigators discovered remains alongside a vehicle matching Blake’s description in a wooded area located in the Lampton community.
Authorities are currently awaiting confirmation from the Mississippi State Crime Lab to officially identify the remains. Nevertheless, investigators have confirmed that the vehicle was registered to Blake, adding a bit more urgency to their search for answers. At this time, no foul play is suspected in Blake’s situation, but the investigation is still ongoing, leaving his family on edge and hoping for news.
The string of cases serves as a stark reminder of the challenges some individuals face, and the heartache that comes with uncertainty. Each of these stories touches on critical aspects of community awareness, the need for mental health resources, and the importance of keeping an eye out for vulnerable members of society.
