Columbia Readies for a Festive Evening with the South Carolina Philharmonic

As the holiday season rushes in and the sun shines brightly over Columbia, folks are buzzing with excitement for a spectacular musical celebration! This year, the South Carolina Philharmonic is all set to bring back its crowd-favorite concert, “Home for the Holidays,” which will take place at the Koger Center for the Arts on December 19 at 7 p.m. It’s the perfect way to dive into the holiday spirit!

What to Expect

Under the talented direction of Music Director Morihiko Nakahara, concert-goers are in for a real treat! Joining the orchestra will be a stellar lineup of vocalists, including CammWess, Cat Galan, Michael Hazin, and the acclaimed opera singer, Jonnie Felder. And that’s not all! You can also look forward to dazzling performances by the Cola Rep Dance Co. as the first act, and the beloved Columbia Choral Society will swing by for the electrifying second act. To top it all off, that jolly old fella, Santa Claus, is set to make a special appearance for any last-minute requests from eager children and adults alike!

A Message from the Director

Director Chad Henderson is thrilled about what lies ahead. “This concert is a salute to our community,” he shares, emphasizing how last year’s concert inspired them to create an engaging program filled with joyous music. “We ended up crafting a multidisciplinary celebration of home,” he noted. “And trust me, we have some special surprises planned for our audience this year.”

Henderson highlighted the timing of the concert saying, “This event happens late in December, which makes it a perfect way for families and friends to gather. Many will be traveling home for the holidays, making this a wonderful way to usher in the festive season.” And with lighting designer Marc Hurst on board, you can bet it’s going to be a visually stunning show as well!
