A Tradition Like No Other

What makes this production special? It’s the only full-length production of The Nutcracker in Columbia with a full orchestra and chorus backing it up! The enchanting music by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky has warmed hearts since the ballet first premiered back in 1882 at the Imperial Maryinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. This year, the Columbia Festival Orchestra, under the baton of Neil Casey, will bring Tchaikovsky’s sparkling score to life, ensuring the magic is alive and well.

The Magical Storyline

The enchanting tale follows young Clara as she navigates a night filled with wonder—from a magnificent Christmas party to battling the evil Rat King with her brave Nutcracker Prince. Dance lovers will enjoy seeing Clara meet the Sugar Plum Fairy amidst a treasure trove of delightful characters, including charming toy soldiers and dancing dolls. This production beautifully evokes the grandeur of the Gilded Age, wrapping audiences in a warm blanket of nostalgia and holiday cheer.

Featuring a Talented Cast

This year’s production features incredible talent. Sakura Oka will grace the stage as the Sugar Plum Fairy, while Brandon Penn takes on the role of her dashing Cavalier. The lineup doesn’t stop there—Elizabeth-Gray Rivers will shine as the Snow Queen, and Rebecca McLean will enchant as Clara. The roles of Herr Drosselmeyer and the Countess Silberhaus will be portrayed by the talented Jimmy Moon and Susan Moon, respectively. Each dancer brings their own unique flair to the story, sure to captivate the audience.

Something for Everyone!

Whether you’re a dance aficionado or simply looking for a bit of holiday spirit, The Nutcracker has something for everyone! The charming set designs, beautiful costumes, and unforgettable music create an atmosphere of pure joy. Not to mention, the Friday evening performance will honor first responders and their families—what a lovely nod to those who serve our community.

This is one holiday event you absolutely will not want to miss! Gather your loved ones for a beautiful afternoon or evening filled with laughter, exquisite dancing, and holiday cheer. With such a talented cast and crew ready to dazzle, The Nutcracker at The Township Auditorium is sure to become a highlight of your holiday season.
