Mark your calendars for Saturday, December 21, because students in the Animal Science II class at W.J. Keenan High School are hosting a special dog grooming event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school located at 361 Pisgah Church Road. This is a wonderful opportunity for community members to give their furry friends some extra love while supporting these enthusiastic future animal care professionals. Who doesn’t love a fresh-cut pup?
Art Lovers Unite!
If you’re into the arts, check out Alexandra’s Art Studio on 111 Sparkleberry Crossing Road. They have everything from adult classes to kids camps. Art is a great way to express yourself, so why not dive right in? Plus, the Congaree Vista Guild is currently accepting submissions for the 2025 Artista Vista Juried Exhibition themed “Rooted”, taking place from April 11-13, 2025. Show off your creativity and be part of this fantastic event!

Feel like building connections? Join the Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement for a Kickoff Rally on December 21 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Arden Elementary School, 1300 Ashley Street. This event aims to bring community members together in a vibrant and interactive setting to promote unity and positive relationships. Holiday Festivities In Full Swing
The holiday season wouldn’t be complete without festive celebrations. Make sure to check out the 37th Annual Columbia Christmas Pageant at the First Baptist of Columbia on December 14 at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., and the following day at 3 p.m.. It’s a beautiful way to get into the holiday spirit.
Additionally, Cayce West Columbia is hosting a fantastic lineup of holiday events! Don’t miss the Christmas Parade rolling through at 10 a.m. on December 14 and the Holiday Parade of Lights later that evening at 5:30 p.m. Shops and businesses will have special offers throughout the day, making it a great chance to do some holiday shopping while enjoying the festive atmosphere!
A Spectacular Winter Solstice
Bring some light into the winter darkness at the Winter Solstice Lantern Parade on December 21. Starting at 5:30 p.m. in Riverfront Park, 312 Laurel Street, this enchanting event invites everyone to bring their lanterns and gather together in celebration. Welcome the light of the new year with your fellow community members.

The fun doesn’t stop there! For the music lovers, pianist Matthew Ganong will present a lovely Christmas Music Vespers performance on December 15, starting at 5 p.m. at the Sherwood Forest Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. And there’s a Free Old School Gospel Concert hosted by Project Unity USA on January 11. That’s an event you won’t want to miss!
