Columbia Celebrates Holiday Spirit with Festival of Trees Fundraiser

Columbia, S.C. — The holiday season kicked off in style as hundreds of locals gathered near downtown Columbia on Friday evening for the highly anticipated Festival of Trees fundraiser organized by the Prisma Health Midlands Foundation. This annual event has become a cherished tradition in the community, bringing people together to support a noble cause while spreading festive cheer.

An Evening to Remember

As guests arrived at the event, they were greeted by an impressive array of beautifully decorated trees, each one donated and adorned by local businesses and individuals. Katie Williams, a representative with the Prisma Health Midlands Foundation, passionately described the significance of the event, stating, “Tonight is our Festival of Trees and donor celebration. This is our signature fundraising event for *Prisma Health Children’s Hospital Midlands*, and it is the official kickoff of the holiday season.”

Making a Difference

It was clear that the evening was not just about glitz and glamour; it was fundamentally about making a positive impact on the local children’s hospital. Williams elaborated, “It’s because of events like this that we can help enhance patient care and fundraising and philanthropy within the community. We can have, not just the latest and greatest in treatments and technology, but also a lot of support programs for children.”

A Heartfelt Contribution

Among the notable donors was the Beamer Family Foundation, which generously contributed $50,000 to support the children’s hospital. Such substantial donations are crucial in ensuring that the hospital can continue to provide the best care possible.

Real Stories, Real Impact

Some guests shared their personal experiences that highlighted the incredibly important work the hospital does. Tyler and Lindsey Priester are just one of the many families who are thankful for the care provided by Prisma Children’s Hospital. “When my son was just shy of two years old, he tragically fell in our swimming pool. He was in the PICU for about eight or nine days and then went to the standard floor for therapy. My son is now nine years old, and he has no developmental delays whatsoever, and so we are just so blessed,” Lindsey said, her eyes glistening with gratitude. Tyler added, “You don’t know when you’re going to need the children’s hospital. We’re very fortunate to have it.”

Behind the Scenes

The night was not just about fundraising; it also featured engaging activities and community interactions. Dr. Jeff Holloway, who runs the concussion clinic at Prisma Children’s Hospital, shared his enthusiasm for the work he does. “The concussion clinic is something that I think is unique. It’s one of the few in the state, and it’s something that is a service where I can provide some services that patients don’t get otherwise,” he said proudly.

Dr. Holloway is also known for putting on the costume of the hospital’s beloved mascot, Buddy the Bear. “Buddy the Bear is the mascot for the children’s hospital. We enjoy having him there to interact with the kids, teaching them a little bit about the hospital and what they might expect,” he explained with a smile.

A Promising Future

The organizers expressed their excitement over the turnout, which exceeded expectations. “We are grateful to all those who continue to support the Prisma Health Midlands Foundation,” they commented, accentuating the importance of community involvement in the success of the event. As the evening came to a close, it was evident that the Festival of Trees was more than just a fundraiser; it was a warm celebration of hope, compassion, and the spirit of giving. This event reminds us all how important it is to support our local community and the incredible healthcare initiatives that make a difference in the lives of so many.
