Columbia Events Calendar for June – July 2024

Columbia has an exciting calendar of diverse events for citizens and visitors alike in June-July 2024.

Art and Culture

The Alexandra’s Art Studio on Sparkleberry Crossing Road welcomes art enthusiasts to attend its adult classes, kids’ camps, and art class groups. In partnership with One Columbia for Arts and Culture, The Columbia SC Visitors Center is hosting artist popups outside of the VC on weekends until July 28. Meanwhile, Shandon United Methodist Church is showcasing an exhibition of Ashley Ozmint’s oil paintings at the Patricia Beckler Art Gallery until August 30.

Blood Drive

Spring Valley Rotary Club has scheduled a Red Cross blood drive for July 2 at the Grand Hall of Northeast Presbyterian Church located on Polo Road.

Church/Charity

Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church is organizing a Vacation Bible School for ages three through fifth grade on July 12 and July 13.

Dance

Whether you have experience or are new to the art of dance, Columbia Music Festival Association’s Adult Ballet Classes could pique your interest. These classes, recommended for ages 12 and above, take place every Thursday at 7 p.m.

Donations

EMS Closet is encouraging community members to donate new clothing to help students in Richland School District 1 and 2 make a great start in the new academic year.

Fundraisers

Friends of the Irmo Branch Library is putting together its annual Murder Mystery Dinner Theater “Murder on Main Street” on August 3.

Garden

Peggy Jeffcoat is initiating a Special Daylily Sale at Singing Oakes Garden on June 22 to downsize her garden.

Market/Sale

The Market at Richland Library is ready to serve customers every Wednesday until October 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Meetings/Clubs

Various clubs and groups including the Spring Valley Rotary Club, Forest Acres Rotary Club, Rotary Club of Columbia East, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) group, Rotary Club of Five Points, and the Lower Richland Ruritan Club have scheduled regular meetings throughout the month.

Military

The Independence Day celebration will feature the 15th Annual Patriotic Flyover, Salute From The Shore. The event promises a spectacle with F-16s, C-17s, and privately-owned vintage aircraft flying across the length of South Carolina’s coastline.

Museums

The Olympia Mill Village Museum invites visitors to explore “Life in the Olympia Mill Village in the 1920s” with free admission on Fridays and Saturdays.

Open House

The Mental Illness Recovery Center, Inc. (MIRCI) is celebrating the grand opening of its new facilities on Laurel Street on June 27.

Sports/Outdoors

Sporting events are in store as well, with the American Pickleball Tour (APT) returning to the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center from July 19-21. On July 30, The Boys and Girls Club Jackson Teen Center (Grind Out Program) is organizing a “Wash and Cuts Grind Out” event. To honor Veterans, past and present, along with Wreaths Across America, Lexington County Blowfish and Fort Jackson National Cemetery have planned an Independence Day Celebration on July 3 and 4.

Summer

Columbia’s outdoor pools and splash pads/spray pools have been opened for the recreational swim season from May 25 until September 2.

Support Groups

Promise of Serenity NAR-ANON Meeting, ADD/ADHD Support Group of the Midlands, SC Youth Advocate Program, and Invitation to Change support group are providing much-needed support to different sections of the society meeting regularly throughout the month.

Veterans

ESNTL Headshots is offering free professional headshots as a part of their contribution to veterans transitioning to civilian life. Additionally, the Columbia VA Healthcare System will host a Korean War Remembrance Ceremony at the Dorn VA Medical Center on June 25.

Workshops/Classes

Various groups including the City of Columbia Community Development, Operation Hope, and South State Bank are ready to host the All Access Columbia Financial Literacy Workshop on June 26. Also, on June 28, Joe Long, Curator of Education at South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum, will give a talk about Vietnam POWs at the Richland Library.
