Columbia’s Calendar of Events Packed With Activities
In a variety of fields ranging from arts and culture to city affairs, health, and fundraising, Columbia, South Carolina is buzzing with activities. The Columbia Star’s event calendar reveals a series of events set to captivate locals and tourists alike in the coming months.
Animals
Columbia Animal Services is hosting a March Madness Adoption Special until Monday, April 8th, at 127 Humane Lane, aiming to encourage animal adoption.
Arts
Art enthusiasts can enjoy various events such as adult and children’s classes at Alexandra’s Art Studio, 111 Sparkleberry Crossing Road, and artist popups organized by the Columbia SC Visitors Center and One Columbia for Arts and Culture. The artist popups run every weekend until July 28th outside the VC at 1120 Lincoln Street. The Historic Melrose Art in the Yard family-friendly event is set for Sunday, May 5, featuring art, food, and live music.
City Affairs
On Saturday, April 6, the Public Works Solid Waste Division is hosting a Compost Giveaway at the City Compost Site, 121 Humane Lane.
Dance
The Palmetto Scottish Country Dance events take place every Monday at the Eastminster Presbyterian Community Life Center. For lovers of ballet, classes are held Thursdays at the Columbia Music Festival Association, 914 Pulaski Street. Furthermore, the Ly-Ben Dance Alliance Ubuntu Dance Festival, set for April 20, will be a day filled with masterclasses, community dance classes, and a concert.
Fairs and Festivals
Columbia is also gearing up for several fairs and festivals, including Brookhaven HOA’s Annual Spring Craft Vendor Fare on May 11, the Columbia Food & Wine Festival from April 24–28, and the Second Annual Community Earth Day Celebration on April 13. Additionally, the Great Bavarian Circus is set to perform from April 5–21 at the S.C. State Fairgrounds.
Fundraisers
The Living Wright Foundation will hold its second annual Bees & Blossoms Spring Fundraiser on May 23 at The Hall at Senate’s End, 320 Senate Street.
Health
The South Carolina Air National Guard 169th Medical Group will host a Community Health Expo on April 6 at Garners Ferry Adult Activity Center, 8620 Garners Ferry Road, Hopkins.
Historic
April has several events organized by Historic Columbia, including a Palladium Tour, Landmarks and Landscapes event, Spring Plant sale, and Columbia Canopy Project Community Celebrations.
