Community Fun Weekend

Columbia Gears Up for a Weekend Full of Fun and Community Events!

Columbia is buzzing with excitement as the city prepares for a weekend packed with activities that promise fun for everyone! This Saturday, September 28, from noon to 6 p.m., the much-loved 17th Annual Palmetto Peanut Boil will take over the 2900 Block of Devine Street. If you’ve never been before, this is an event you won’t want to miss! Not only is it a fantastic opportunity to enjoy good food and great company, but it also supports a wonderful cause. Hosted by Animal Mission, 100% of proceeds from the event will go towards Columbia Animal Services and their important spay and neuter program. And to sweeten the deal, Columbia Animal Services will be offering free adoptions during the event. It’s a perfect moment to welcome a furry friend into your home!

Get Artsy and Dance the Night Away

If art is your jam, stop by Alexandra’s Art Studio at 111 Sparkleberry Crossing Road. They are known for their delightful adult classes, kids camps, and art group sessions. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, there’s something here for everyone! For those ready to shake a leg, the Palmetto Scottish Country Dance group invites everyone to join in the fun every Monday from 6-7:45 p.m. at the Eastminster Presbyterian Community Life Center!

Nature Lovers Rejoice!

We all know trees are vital for our environment, and Columbia is taking action! The Forestry and Beautification Department is seeking community involvement with their Treasured Trees Program. If you know of a tree that holds a special place in the Midlands, consider nominating it! Anyone can submit a nomination through November 1; just reach out to them at 803-545-3860 for a form. It’s a great way to spread awareness about the beauty and benefits of our green companions!

Mark Your Calendars for More Fun

As October approaches, Columbia will usher in more exciting events. The Fall Plant and Flower Festival at the South Carolina State Farmers Market on October 4-6 will be perfect for gardeners wanting to fill their homes with autumn blooms. Or if you’re in the mood for a musical experience, join us for the Jam Room Music Festival on October 26—get ready to dance to some amazing local talent!

Community Support and Awareness

Columbia is also dedicated to supporting its residents in meaningful ways. Women’s Night Out on October 8 will celebrate breast cancer survivors, an uplifting evening to honor these brave individuals. If you’re looking to empower others, the Employer Summit held by Hire Me SC on October 2 is a great opportunity to connect with the community while promoting disability employment awareness.

Ready to Dive In?

No matter where your interests lie, there’s something happening in Columbia this weekend that you’ll love! From a celebration of our furry friends at the Palmetto Peanut Boil to a chance to honor our trees with the Treasured Trees Program, it’s a delightful time to engage and enjoy.

So gather your friends and family, and make it a priority to check out all that Columbia has to offer this weekend. We can’t wait to see you there!
