Columbia Celebrates the Arrival of the State Christmas Tree as Holiday Season Approaches

Columbia Welcomes the Holiday Spirit with the State Christmas Tree

The holiday season is creeping up on us, and here in Columbia, South Carolina, we can’t help but feel that festive buzz in the air! This Tuesday morning, our lovely state will kick off the celebrations with the arrival of the much-anticipated state Christmas tree, and folks are already getting into the spirit of the season.

Excitement is in the Air!

We caught up with some local residents to hear what they’re most excited about as the holidays approach. One happy resident, Mary Catherine Branch, expressed her love for everything that comes with this special time of year. “I love the holidays,” she shared with a bright smile. “There’s something about this time of year, the leaves falling, it getting a little chillier, and the quality time spent together. Every year, we like to do an advent guide, and we light candles each week leading up to Christmas.” Sounds like a beautiful tradition, doesn’t it?

Meanwhile, Kelly Tabor can hardly wait to see the joy on her loved ones’ faces as they unwrap their gifts. “Being with family is the number one thing,” she said, emphasizing the importance of togetherness. “Of course, the great food is a bonus, and gifts are kind of secondary. Let’s just say, I absolutely love giving gifts! It fills my heart with joy, especially seeing the excitement on children’s faces as they open them.” There’s something truly special about those surprised little faces!

Feasting in Festivity

No holiday celebration is complete without a delicious feast, and for Kelly, it’s all about that Christmas dinner. “We have to have Christmas dinner,” she insisted. “And let’s not forget about our Christmas breakfast! We indulge in country ham, eggs, grits, hash browns, homemade biscuits and gravy, and every type of preserves you can imagine.” Can anyone else taste those fluffy biscuits? It’s making our mouths water just hearing about it!

A Seasonal Reminder

With the magnificent Christmas tree making its grand entrance to the north lawn of the State House, many feel it serves as a grand reminder that the holidays are indeed on the horizon. “I think it’s going to be a huge reminder that the holidays are right around the corner,” Kelly pointed out, “and that people need to start buying those gifts!”

The Big Moment: Tree Lighting Ceremony

Mark your calendars because the official lighting of the tree is set for Sunday, November 24th, during the annual Governor’s Carolighting Ceremony. This event is sure to bring folks together and spread joy across our beautiful city.

Join the Celebration!

As you can see, Columbia is buzzing with anticipation, and it’s clear that the arrival of the Christmas tree is a much-loved tradition. With families gearing up for warm gatherings, delightful meals, and the joy of gift-giving, it’s no wonder this time of year brings everyone a little closer together. So whether you’re setting out your decorations, starting your holiday shopping, or simply making special memories with loved ones, take a moment to soak in that beautiful festive spirit!

We hope you join in on the excitement and make the most of this holiday season. Happy holidays, Columbia!
