Columbia Arrests Three in Connection with Attempted Murder and Armed Robbery Incident

Columbia Sees Recent Arrests Following Attempted Murder and Armed Robbery Incident

In the vibrant city of Columbia, a troubling incident unfolded that has left the community shocked. Recently, three individuals, including a teenager, were taken into custody following a shooting that was linked to an attempted murder and armed robbery. The Columbia Police Department released details on Wednesday night, shedding light on the series of events that transpired on August 17.

What Happened?

According to police reports, the trouble began when Ma’ziya Mills, aged 23, invited a man—referred to as the victim— to meet her on Ripplemeyer Avenue. It later surfaced that Mills was well aware that her accomplices, Maalik Corley, aged 19, and Demarco Gleaton, 23, had sinister plans in mind to commit crimes.

As the victim arrived at the meeting spot, things escalated quickly. Corley and Gleaton approached him, broke into his car, and stole items from inside. The victim attempted to escape from the scene, but unfortunately, the two didn’t let him go that easily. They chased him down, and in a truly terrifying turn of events, held him at gunpoint while assaulting him. When the victim bravely tried to defend himself, it was Corley who fired a shot, but fortunately, he was not struck by the gunfire. The good news? No other injuries were reported during this chaotic incident.

The Arrests

Fast forward to the present, and several days after the violent episode, law enforcement stepped in. Police arrested Corley on Tuesday, where he now faces multiple serious charges. These include attempted murder, armed robbery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, auto breaking, larceny, and conspiracy. Jail records indicate that his bond for the larceny charge was set at $2,125, but he has been denied bond on the remaining charges. Corley is currently being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

Gleaton was also apprehended on Wednesday, facing charges that mirror many of Corley’s: armed robbery, first-degree assault and battery, auto breaking, larceny, and conspiracy. Just like Corley, he too had a larceny bond of $2,125 but is locked up with no bond granted for the other serious charges. Both Corley and Gleaton have their next court appearances scheduled for December 13, according to available judicial records.

In an interesting twist, police officers who arrested the duo reported seizing a gun that had previously been reported stolen from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, pointing to a broader pattern of crime.

What About Mills?

As for Mills, she was arrested on the same day as Corley, facing her own set of charges that include conspiracy, accessory before the fact to a felony, and accessory after the fact to a felony. Her bond was set at a hefty $75,000. Like her companions, she remains incarcerated, awaiting her court date.

The details surrounding this case have raised numerous questions and concerns in the Columbia community, showcasing a distressing incident that has left many feeling unsettled. The police have stated that they aim to keep the public informed as more information becomes available on this developing story.

As this situation unfolds, it’s crucial to stay updated, as authorities are working diligently to clarify the facts. The community of Columbia is certainly hoping for some relief from such alarming events and looking forward to justice being served.
