Columbia, S.C. (WOLO) – The buzz is all around as the Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) begins the next phase of its much-anticipated checkpoint expansion project. If you’ve flown from CAE lately, you might have noticed some changes already taking shape. Yes, that’s right! New temporary walls went up starting the week of September 30, and these walls are part of a major improvement plan that aims to enhance the travel experience for all passengers.
If you’re looking to catch a flight or pick someone up, be prepared for a little detour as the construction zone may reroute both departing and arriving passengers in the areas impacted by this upgrade. But fret not! Airport officials are on it and have installed several signals to help everyone navigate the new flow of traffic with ease.
Mike Gula, the President & CEO of CAE, had something encouraging to share regarding this project: “Construction trucks and temporary walls are signs of growth, expansion, and progress.” And indeed, that’s what this expansion project is all about. It’s a step towards improving our airport facilities to make your overall experience smoother and more efficient.
So, which areas will be affected during this project? The primary changes will take place in the security screening areas and the arrival/departure lanes. You might think that the airport is just an airport, but it’s much more than that. It’s a gateway to new adventures and experiences, which is why making these types of updates is so vital.
To assist passengers in this transitional phase, CAE officials have planned to utilize directional signage on the temporary walls. This will ensure that everyone knows exactly where to go as they journey towards their gates or head back to the main lobby after their arrival.
As for how long construction will take, you can expect the first phase to last roughly 90 days. After that, the second phase is expected to stretch through early 2025. Patience is key, but once it’s complete, CAE will be ramping up its security screening capacity from a modest two lanes to a whopping four lanes! That means less waiting and more time for you to enjoy a snack or browse through duty-free shops.
This expansion project is not merely about upgrading walls and lanes; it’s about ensuring that your travel experience at CAE is as delightful as possible. With the air travel industry constantly evolving and more people taking to the skies, such transformations play an essential role in accommodating higher volumes of traffic efficiently. So, next time you’re traveling, just remember these changes are all made with your comfort and convenience in mind.
For those who wish to keep tabs on the airport’s developments, you can find additional information on the airport’s dedicated website at www.FlyCAE.com. We encourage all travelers to stay updated so they can plan their trips accordingly during this exciting yet transitional period.
In the meantime, keep that travel spirit alive! We can look forward to an upgraded Columbia Metropolitan Airport that not only meets but exceeds our flying expectations.
