City Limits Barbeque Earns Spot on Prestigious 2024 Restaurant List, Celebrated for Its Culinary Delights in West Columbia

City Limits Barbeque Takes Center Stage in West Columbia

West Columbia is buzzing with excitement as the beloved barbecue joint, City Limits Barbeque, has once again found itself in the national spotlight. Located at 1119 Methodist Park Road, this cozy eatery has been recognized on a prestigious annual list, making its mark as a top destination for food lovers across the United States.

A Sweet Recognition

On Monday, the restaurant was included in the 2024 Restaurant List by The New York Times, a compilation that celebrates 50 of the paper’s favorite spots to eat. What’s even more impressive? City Limits was the only restaurant from the Midlands to secure a spot this year! The only other South Carolina gem to make the list was Lost Isle in Johns Island—quite a feat for our local food scene!

Why Do Food Lovers Adore City Limits?

According to Kim Severson, who wrote the entry for City Limits, the highlight of the menu is undoubtedly the South Carolina-style chopped pork sandwich. It’s described as a “master class” in barbecue, featuring vinegary goodness complemented by a crunch from crisp bits of cracklings enveloped in tender meat. And if you’re feeling adventurous, topping it off with a scoop of slightly creamy, finely chopped coleslaw can elevate the experience even further.

Robbie Robinson, the talented pitmaster behind City Limits, also dives into Texas-style barbecue with his snappy Hill Country sausages and generously meaty beef ribs. However, don’t rush out the door without a taste of the warm peach cobbler—it’s definitely worth saving room for!

From Food Truck to Brick-and-Mortar

Robinson’s journey started back in 2016 when he launched City Limits as a humble food truck. Fast forward to 2023, the restaurant moved into a permanent location on Methodist Park Road, allowing more barbecue fans to savor his creations. With its acclaimed Texas-style brisket and mouth-watering Carolina-style pulled pork, the restaurant has won over hearts and stomachs alike.

This year has been particularly remarkable for Robinson, as he was a finalist for Best Chef-Southeast at the renowned James Beard Foundation Awards. Plus, in August, City Limits made a splash by landing at No. 4 on Southern Living’s Best New BBQ Joints list. That’s a lot of accolades for one small restaurant!

A Grateful Heart

On Tuesday morning, Robinson took to social media to express his gratitude towards his family, employees, and the loyal customers that have fueled the restaurant’s success. He shared an Instagram story noting how thankful he is for the recognition and how it inspires him to keep striving for greatness.

“When we get a little attention, I’m thankful,” said Robinson, beaming with pride. “We are not going to stop grinding away and trying to do what we do. I’m going to wake up every day, grind, and serve y’all the best bite of food that I can.”

Open for Barbecue Lovers

For those looking to dig into some of this award-winning barbecue, City Limits typically opens its doors only on Saturdays and Sundays, making it a perfect weekend destination for food enthusiasts.

As the accolades continue to pour in, City Limits Barbeque stands as a shining example of culinary passion and dedication right here in West Columbia. So, if you haven’t had the chance to check it out yet, this might just be the nudge you need to grab some friends and dive into their tasty offerings!
