In the heart of Columbia, South Carolina, there’s an inspiring tale unfolding at Pawmetto Lifeline. Meet Reba, a sweet and friendly 10-year-old Chow Chow mix who has stolen the hearts of everyone around her. Found as a stray wandering the streets of West Columbia, Reba’s story is one of resilience and hope.
When Reba first arrived at Pawmetto Lifeline, she was in pretty rough shape. Her fur was patchy and itchy, and the tops of her ears were bloodied and infected from a condition called flystrike, causing her immense pain. But, with the dedicated care from the volunteers and staff at Pawmetto Lifeline, Reba’s fur and ears have healed beautifully over the past month.
It’s truly remarkable to see how much better she looks now. You would never guess that this vibrant girl has faced so many challenges. With her past behind her, she’s ready to embrace a bright future filled with love and adventure!
Reba is not just a pretty face; she’s also a fun-loving companion. She genuinely enjoys being around people and welcomes lots of pets and attention. Nothing makes her happier than dashing around the yard and playing to her heart’s content. Plus, she’s quite the treat enthusiast! Reba already knows how to sit and is even learning how to shake hands, which is sure to impress her future family.
For those wondering about her training status, Reba is both crate-trained and potty trained. However, she does have a high prey drive when it comes to cats and needs to be in a home that does not have felines or other small animals. While she has had positive interactions with other dogs through the fence, Reba has not yet been tested directly with them. That being said, she’s a quick learner and adapts well!
Initially, Reba struggled to adjust to the shelter environment. However, over the past month, she has truly blossomed into a joyful and vibrant girl. Her favorite part of the day is getting out of her kennel and spending time with her caretakers. You can just see the excitement in her eyes as she anticipates the love and companionship that await her outside of the shelter’s walls.
Reba’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Due to her lack of care in the past, she is currently heartworm positive. But don’t let that deter you! She is on a “slow-kill” treatment plan to help her recover, and it is expected that she will test negative in about eight months. Her adoption will come with a temporary commitment to help see her through this healing process.
Reba is available for adoption or fostering, and the good news is that her adoption fee has been reduced to just $50. This fee includes her spay, microchip, and up-to-date vaccines. If you’re interested in bringing this lovable girl into your life, filling out a foster or adoption application is easy! You can do so online at the Pawmetto Lifeline website.
To meet Reba, you can visit Pawmetto Lifeline during their walk-in adoption hours on Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., or by appointment during the week. They are located at 1275 Bower Parkway in Columbia.
With Reba’s newfound vibrancy and playful spirit, just imagine how happy she will be when she finally gets to experience the love of a family! If you or someone you know is looking to adopt a new furry friend, consider giving Reba a chance at a forever home. She’s ready to spread her paws and bring joy to someone special!
