Goodbye National Letter of Intent

In a surprising turn of events, the NCAA has decided to wave goodbye to the long-standing National Letter of Intent (NLI), which has been around since the 1960s. Instead, athletes will now sign financial aid agreements directly with the NCAA. This shift is set to change the landscape of college sports recruiting for future athletes, but for this year’s seniors, they can still move forward with their college commitments today.

Today’s signing activities include all Division I and Division II sports with basketball taking the spotlight. The early basketball signing period is in full swing and runs until November 20. For athletes riding the waves of other sports, they can sign until August 1, 2025. While football fans can mark their calendars for an early signing period from December 4-6, the regular football signing period kicks off February 5, lasting until April 1 for Division I and August 1 for Division II.
