Tartan Day South Event Honors Celtic Culture in Cayce

Cayce welcomed an array of classic Celtic culture at the recently concluded Tartan Day South, a four-day event that served as a celebration of the rich traditions of Ireland, Scotland, and England. The commemoration took place from April 4th until April 7th.

Event Highlights

The event was launched on Thursday, April 4th at the Steel Hands Brewery in Cayce, providing guests an evening of melodious tunes via a music performance by Celtic Conundrum. As the follow-up, a Celtic concert featuring Eireann’s Call, Tuatha Dea, and SYR (Great Irish Bands), was held the next day, April 5th at the Icehouse Amphitheater.

Highlighting the weekend festivities was the Highland Games & Celtic Festival on Saturday, held at the historic Columbia Speedway in Cayce. Attendees were treated to a vibrant display of highland athletics, traditional dancing exhibitions, Celtic music, and a striking mid-day parade featuring mass pip bands and an Irish bagpipe-led procession of different clans.

Apart from these engaging activities, there were ample attractions including sheep and duck dog herding, birds of prey exhibitions, a classic British car show, and a Celtic marketplace. For the children, a variety of fun kiddie rides were made available.

Cultural Exhibits

A significant segment of the event also focused on imparting historical knowledge with Scottish military history presentations, demonstrations by a blacksmith, and a colonial village set-up. Additionally, the presence of several food vendors allowed attendees to indulge in traditional Celtic cuisine, thereby ensuring a comprehensive cultural experience.

Tartan Day South continues to successfully promote Celtic culture and traditions, drawing in admirers from all walks of life to partake in the celebration. This year’s event, with its diverse mix of activities and exhibitions, effectively maintained this trend.
