Cayce, SC 10/07/2024 (Paul Kirby) – The quiet streets of Cayce, nestled next to Columbia, were recently shaken by a bold attempt at theft that left local law enforcement scratching their heads. On July 31, 2024, two men allegedly conspired to steal over $1,800 worth of merchandise from the Burlington Coat Factory, located at a busy shopping area that usually bustles with families and shoppers.
As the story goes, the two suspects didn’t bother with a tricky getaway plan or elaborate disguises. Instead, they opted for what seemed to be a rather straightforward approach—they stuffed their stolen goods into a piece of rolling luggage! Who would’ve thought that a simple suitcase would be the vehicle for such antics? Apparently, these men were ready to make a quick getaway!
While in the store, their plan took an unexpected turn. They were approached by store management, which appeared to send them into a tailspin. Rather than standing their ground, these thieves decided it was time to make a hasty exit. They ditched the luggage full of stolen items, leaving it behind for the store staff to handle. Talk about a dramatic exit!
As they fled the scene, they jumped into a light-colored Toyota Camry and sped off into the sunset—or at least they probably thought they would. The incident has left many in the area wondering how such a brazen act could take place in their community.
The Cayce Police Department is now on the hunt for these two individuals and is appealing to the community for help. “Every bit of information counts,” said Detective Williamson, who is leading the investigation. Whether you witnessed something suspicious that day or have any leads, the police are all ears. Community involvement is crucial in solving incidents like these.
If you think you might have any information about the suspects, you can reach out to Detective Williamson directly at 803-358-1514 or shoot an email to jwilliamson@lexsc.gov. Whether you’re shopping in Gilbert, enjoying a meal in Irmo, or spending time at Lake Murray, being aware of your surroundings is essential.
“A little alertness can go a long way in ensuring our neighborhoods remain safe and secure,” advises local community leader. “If you see something that seems off, don’t hesitate to report it. It could help prevent incidents like this in the future.”
