Cayce Welcomes New Police Chief Herbert Blake
Cayce, SC – The City of Cayce has officially welcomed its new Police Chief, Herbert Blake, marking a new chapter for the local police department. Chief Blake takes over the role from Chris Cowan, who stepped down in July to join the University of South Carolina’s School of Law. The transition was celebrated in a recent press conference where Blake shared his vision for the police department and the community.

Experience to Lead the Charge
Bringing with him over 20 years of law enforcement experience, Chief Blake’s journey in policing began as an officer in Ridgeland, SC. He ascended to serve as the Police Chief of both Hendersonville and Loris Police Departments before becoming the Chief Deputy of the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office in Asheville, NC. This wealth of experience positions him well to guide Cayce’s police force into a new era.
Jim Crosland, the Interim City Manager, spoke highly of Blake, describing him as someone with a “true servant’s heart.” During their first meeting, Crosland shared, “You could tell he has a true servant’s heart and he just wants to serve our community.” It’s this humility and desire to be a supportive leader that residents can look forward to as Blake takes the reins.
Family Roots in the Community
Chief Blake and his wife, Linda, are not just focused on work—they are family-oriented too! They have two children and five grandchildren, all of whom attend schools throughout Richland County. When asked about his new role and the community, Blake said, “It’s an absolute pleasure to be in a city of this size and proximity, with the goals and objectives that I think is going to move this community forward in a very positive way.”
