Cayce, SC – Earlier this week, the Cayce Police Department found themselves busy after a public safety officer noticed some suspicious activity in the Riverland Park neighborhood. This area was recently in the spotlight, having experienced evacuations last weekend due to flooding caused by Hurricane Helene. The officer observed a group riding all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and promptly called for backup as a precautionary measure.
Responding to the radio call, officers from various divisions, including the Criminal Investigation Division, Patrol Division, and Administrative Division, arrived swiftly to support their colleague. It’s impressive to see how quickly and efficiently the police can mobilize to take care of potential community concerns, isn’t it?
Once on the scene, officers wasted no time. They began to question the ATV riders while they checked the equipment being used. This collective effort showcases some great teamwork—and it paid off! During their investigation, they discovered that one individual in the group was in possession of a stolen trailer attached to his pickup truck.
The individual found with the stolen property was identified as Russell Coffey. He was taken into custody and formally charged with Possession of Stolen Property. After his arrest, Russell was released, pending a court date. It’s a reminder that police work can lead to uncovering more than what meets the eye, often turning a simple call into a significant arrest.
The Cayce Police Department is reminding residents of the importance of community vigilance. They ask everyone to remember that if you see something suspicious, you should definitely say something. It only takes one pair of watchful eyes to help keep our neighborhoods safe! For non-emergency reports, you can reach out to Cayce’s police at (803) 794-0456.
